Northern tournies? or lack of....

Okay, at the risk of creating a nawf/sarf debate (and getting Robbo back on shouting about southern supremacy ;)) I was just wondering why the hell there are no tournaments of any worth in the north etc! infact, why there are no tournies in the North at all!!

Im based in Bingley, Bradford and there never seems to be any events within 2 hours travelling - can anyone enlighten me on why this is? The weather isnt too bad, and us northerners can make a decent burger and organise a good knees up/shin dig - so why not a paintball tourney/competition etc?

I mean, I know loads of players from in and around Lancs, Yorks, North East/West etc even further north who travel down to events, but never hear of any events up here...

And if there isnt, would anyone be interested in helping me host an event up here at some point so i dont have to travel as far!?! Id be willing to sell my flat cap and whipet to sort something!

We have a cracking training venue in the Northern Quarter, the best UK indoor range which is in Bradford , yet no competitions!

The "Forum Battle" being arranged by Mike is a fantastic idea, however again this is down south in Dartford, a hell of a trek for us northerners!!

Im not saying i mind too much as i dont pay for my fuel ;) but I dont want an "arguing" debate on why the souths better because etc, just a reason why we have to spend 2 hours travelling to take part!!! Surely there are some promising potential sites in the North (Harrogate Yorkshire Show ground for one - Bernie are you reading this?!) where a good tourney or at least one leg of a national comp can be held at?

End of rant.... Move along, there is nothing to see here... :)

''The Forum Battle'' if all goes well on the 24th will be making its way up north to give peeps you couldnt travel all this way the opportunity to participate.

So keep watching the thread and look out for a Forum Battle near you :p ;)

There used to be quite a few tournaments up north, not WAY up north but certainly further than they range now e.g. Bully's 2k series. But he stopped running them quite simply due to not enough teams attending, as (depending on the site etc) you need a minimum number of teams at every event to pay the bills let alone make (shock, horror) a few quid for your time & effort.

Since Northern Quarter got up and running etc there seems to be a few more new teams appearing up north, but then disbanding due to not being able to get all the team to a decent league down south. (my previous team had this problem as the guys couldnt all make it down south for tournies as for some it involved a 4am start etc)

If for example the UK masters were to start a Northern Masters, then hopefully they could organise a playoff final at the end of the season against the winners of the southern masters etc - im sure this has been thought about and i understand that if there are not enough teams it falls flat on its arse and i appreciate that this may affect the southern UKM financially - but if that wasnt possible, how about holding 1 round of the main UKM5 or UKM7 up Narf - this would be an improvement on the current arrangements for us "poor" northerners!

Im sure the DV8/Just paintball peeps or even Markie C at NQ can suggest/recommend/find a good location for at least 1 round? (I thought MarkieC had more area at NQ which could be utilised?)

Anyway, just a thought - id be more than happy to assist in any way to promote/run a at least 1 northern round.. but if we did this maybe some of these new teams up here would keep going/establish as it gives them a chance to play - and lets all face it, we all get sucked into paintballing by going to an event!? Running around your garden or local woodland doesnt promote our sport, its people seeing or experiencing these tournies that gets you hooked - it did for me! :(
