Why do you or they think Kappalanche is such a derogatory name?
First, let me make clear that this is my opinion only. I'm not aware of how the players feel about it. They may not care one way or the other, or then again they may care very much.
Avalanche has a long history. Some good some bad, but the impact the team has had on the sport is huge. The team consisted of unforgettable personalities and the marketing of the team was phenomenal. It doesn't matter what you think of Lasoya, Rocky, Ed, and the others, the point is you will always remember them. It doesn't matter where I go, if anyone plays paintball, they have heard of and are interested in Avalanche.
The guys that came from Kapp are fantastic. Dave is one of the best I've ever seen, but they play for Avalanche now. I know that means a LOT to them because they've told me so. Also, there are players that never played for Kapp. They played for Avalanche, Oakland Assasins, Colorado Shooters, etc. They also are placed under the Kappalanche umbrella.
I find it amusing that the person at Kapp would like to encourage the name in 2004. Who could blame them, they have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
As for me, the names like Avalanche, Iron Men, and the others should be preserved and respected as the pioneers in this sport, no matter who plays for them. If you love the game as much as I do, you should understand. If you don't understand, change the name of your team to incorporate another team name and see how it fits and feels. I think you might find it a bit uncomfortable, but then again I may be overly sensitive and you might not care at all .
