Sorry for the random post hopefully some of you guys can enlighten me :D.

If it helps im from the UK in the South west , and the paintball scene seems pretty big down here. Anyhow thank you for your help in advance.

Well for tournament play you're gonna need a fair bit of gear for a fair some of money.:D

Ready?

1st - Goggles (something good - that way you shouldn't need to change em for a while)

then

pack )
marker )
playing gear ) - no particular order
hopper )
bottle )

feel free to add guys!

If you want to try stuff out, best way is to get yourself to a walk-on and ask opinions and ask them to borrow. Most people'll be friendly and have no problem. :)

Minimum gear to play at a walk on day or the like is your own marker, air system, hopper, mask, pack and pots, plus tool kit/maintainence gear. You can play in any old stuff clothes wise!
I'd suggest going to walk ons to get a feel for the game, and then looking to meet people from teams and try out for them
Proto KOTH, part of the NSPL, run newbie specific tournaments and rent all gear for free to new teams, and are a great way of getting involved if you're in the south!

Most tournament markers will essentially do the same thing. Some just have more bells and whistles on it. Take your pick, theres quite a few. All guns, in tournament play, must be locked into the same mode. So a £200 gun will shoot the same mode as the £900 gun at a tournament. Decide on a budget, look at guns in that budget that you like, and get yourself to a walkon. If you ask people politely enough and explain you are new and interested, they may let you have a blast over the range. For you it will be about how the gun feels in your hands, when shooting it. If it feels right, save up and buy one!

Also, say goodbye to any expendable income you are likely to have in the near future :)

Hey ronny,

You wont need a different marker for tourney/woodland use. I've got one marker i use for everything.

How ever, If your looking at doing woodland and tourney (i do) then you'll want to invest in a tourny marker, as the ''woodland'' markers really only suit woodland, there heavy and quite bulky, they focus on looks and realism.

Where abouts in the south west are you? I'm near bristol so i'm sure i'll run into you at one point or another :)

Ronnie PN me, but I thought I'd put a copy of my reply in the open for others to comment on-

I'd look for either a Proto Marker or a Planet Eclipse, as both have good service centres in the UK and good customer support. Go secondhand, as it's a buyers market - take a look at

Proto SLG - non ultralight (ie the older version) from £60 upwards)
Proto PMR - from £90 upwards
Etek 1 - £150ish upwards

Also, the Newbie series I mentioned - here's a link -

Take a look at their forums for winter leagues and training near exeter.

No you can use one marker for all.

However it is better to use a tourney gun in woodsball than a milsim gun in speedball. Reason being is that woods gun favour military appearence over performance, they won't neccesairly shoot as good and they tend to be bulkier and heavier. That's not to say there aren't brilliant woodsguns, the SP1 is fantastic, but they may be a bit to cumbersome for speedball.

On the flipside a speedball gun will perform exactly the same in the woods as it does on the pitch. Your only missing out if you like to roleplay soldiers.
