That way when companies look at it they see what the team has accomplished, and plans to do over the season. They can also see the player’s profiles and what gear everyone uses.
Companies want to represent the best teams paintball has to offer so Companies look for teams that;
A. bring a winning and marketable team to the table
B. A team that has won several tournaments
C. A team that is self sufficient
D. A team that has been together for a while and has done well
E. A team that plays NATIONAL EVENTS!
Sponsors you should look for:
Local companies and Fields: They are going to be the most helpful people you can talk to, they want people to support their field and bring more players in. you should ask them what you can do for them to help out, don’t mention working out a deal or anything until your team has put in a decent amount of work and helped out around the shop a lot. They will in turn be more willing to help your team out if you come to them with an arrangement to help out in turn for either free field time or a case of paint or just better pricing, not necessarily wholesale either.
Major Companies: put together a resume of your team that highlights the above description, then MAIL it in, not email because companies tend to only read things that are in hard copy, because they get thousands of sponsorship requests every day via email.
What sponsors do:
Sponsors can do anything from give you nothing to giving you a full ride in the sport. For most teams right now they are on the end that has nothing done for them. Why? Because they have done nothing to earn a good sponsorship. Companies look for teams that have a good market value, that means can your team represent the company in the area you are located? If you play at Dynasty’s home field, don’t look for a Smart Parts sponsorship because they already have a good team in the area. Companies also look for teams, who can go to national events regularly, because there the team has an ability to market the company to everyone there and the other teams.
What you do for sponsors:
Your team has a responsibility to represent sponsors in the most professional way possible, this includes following all of the sponsors rules and regulations, wearing or using their gear at any team practice and event as well as promoting your sponsor to other players. Send in pictures to them of your team winning an event while using their gear or paint with you holding up a banner or their jersey. This will make the sponsoring company realize that you have accomplished both of your goals and it will make them a lot happier to deal with you in the future. If you can get media coverage of your team, do so! It is very important to have pictures on websites and forums of your team winning or playing events.
In the end it will be largely up to you as a team to promote yourselves as winners and a professional team. Best of luck to everyone who gives it a shot and good luck to the teams that are just starting out.
