There are several rumours on the net that the new shocker will be open bolt, blow forward style. Does anyone have any -real- information about this and can confirm or deny?

It seems that http://www.hypersportworks.com have been talking with Smart Parts and got that information. But still SP:s website claims it's a closed bolt marker....

Odd, as far as I know the Shocker will remain closed bolt and the Nerve will be open bolt. If the shocker is open bolt whats the point in the nerve?!!??

Methinks there might be a wire crossed somewhere....

Smart Parts has always claimed that the shocker will be closed bolt, despite a completly new design. Basically the fact that it was closed bolt was the only reason it was called shocker! So I agree, it seems very odd that they have changed it now...

There is still a difference between shocker and nerve, from what I understand, the nerve will be based on the same design as Impulse but will have several more sophisticated features (as I have written in another thread) and the shocker has a 'new' design. (som claims it is a rip off the mayhem marker...)

So it seems there will still be a difference between both markers.

Unless they've changed the design very recently, which seems very improbable at this stage, the Shocker will be a closed bolt marker. The bolt action is controlled pneumatically, by the pressure in the valve chamber (when the valve chamber has emptied, the bolt moves back, which the chamber refills the bolt is pushed forwards.) This is how it operates with one solenoid instead of the old two - the solenoid now just controls the valve stem, which handles both firing and filling the valve chamber.

You can download the patent to find out more detail, but I've lost the patent number, hopefully someone more organised than me can step in? I believe the patent for the Nerve is also available, if you know what number to look for.

Yes, I know how it works. Check the link I provided in the previous post, there's the patent for both nerve and shocker. However, if you go to the site I mentioned in the first post (http://www.hypersportworks.com) and click on their shocker page they say:

"This is the latest word from Smart Parts
Blow Forward Open Bolt: No it's not a closed bolt gun any more. But SP claims it's still amazingly accurate!"
----

It seems unlikely that they would post something like that unless they were -really- sure it was true, wouldn't you agree?

The rumour from shocker owners group is that SP had trouble getting the closed bolt design to work, so they changed it to open bolt.

That'll teach me to trust last week's press release

Hmm, the plot thickens. A few of us on another forum were discussing potential problems in the design a couple of months back, but eventually brushed them off saying "well SP wouldn't have patented it unless it actually worked". Now HSW aren't about to start rumours that can't be backed up, though Smart Parts literature still says that the Shocker will be closed bolt.

So, it'll be an open-bolt, blow-forward, single-solenoid marker - does it bear any relation at all to the old shocker? Doesn't seem so, in fact as Pinki says, it's a mag. OK, next trick: get that shooting 300fps at 150psi :D

More changes:
Hypersportworks updates and say:
----
This is the latest word from Smart Parts

The new Shocker .03 MAY BE a Blow Forward Open Bolt: But SP claims it's still amazingly accurate! They are undecided as of today 5-12-03 as to the exact operation of the gun. We will be a little disapointed if they do make it an open bolt gun.

Release date has been moved back AGAIN to late June, early July. They are trying to make it all that and a bag of chips, and that can take a while.

Seems like smart parts are having some problems...

It's hard to see a June/July release date for a marker when they don't even know in May how it's going to work  Sounds like SP have backed themselves into a corner with marketing hype (what? SP? never!) and now they're screwed because the damn thing doesn't work. We shall see...
