Before we start...............

Yeah you might have read my new format idea before..........but this is newer, modded version of that format. I think it's pretty good.........

Check it out..............

P.S.-This idea is too make a good SPECTATOR format to be fun to watch. Don't think I'm trying to get this at local fields. This is a PRO format. Maybe Am. And incase you ask........Yes this idea did sorta come Football/Basketball and of course paintball.

5 vs. 5 games. Similar to X-Ball.

80 minute game clock. Four 20 minute quarters=two 40 minute halves.
20 minute half time.

Offense and defense.

70 yard field end to end. 125 feet wide. (Just think 20 yards longer than an X-Ball field)

Scoring/gameplay:
Two teams of five start at their endzone strectching across the field. One of them is defense and the other is offense. The offense has one person with a special jersey and his job is to carry the flag to the opponent's endzone that stretches across the field. The other four on offense is to help him get there without getting shot. The defense is supposed to hold them off by shooting all the offense before any of them have time to go back onto the field. That's right.........Both offense and defense have ressurection. When a player is shot, he/she runs back to their endzone. Once in the endzone, they wait for one minute, then go back in. This way, no one team should dominate from the start. This can also creat suspensful situations. Once the offense brings the flag to the defense's endzone, the clock stops and they switch offense/defense. They do this until the clock runs out. There is a break between every offensive drive up the field. If the offense shoots all the defensive players before any have a chance to regenerate, at any time, the offense restarts their drive, but they can't score a point by doing that. They have to get the flag into the endzone. And they can only hang the flag if their is at least one defensive player left. This makes it so that the flag hang is actually the exciting part, like a point in other sports. If the defense does what they should and shoots all the offensive players, then they get the flag and start a drive on offense. But, if the offensive flag carrier gets shot, he drops the flag where he is and either the offense can retrieve it and sustain the drive, or the defense can take it, and then they'll be on offense.

Paintballs: While watching on T.V., paintballs would be visible. The field would be lined with censors to detect the paintballs while in flight. They would then show the paintballs on T.V.. It's kinda similar to the first down line in football.

Teams would have about twenty players. Their would be a defensive and offensive roster. They would recruit for players, have coaches, offensive chorodinators, etc. They would be plyed to play, under contract. They wouldn't pay to play. They would also be payed by their sponsors.

Guns would not more than 12 balls a second.

We'd also market the hell outa' this thing. We'd start by doing exhibitions in the middle of places like Disney World, Six Flags, Times Square, other major theme parks, crowded beaches, and anywhere else with an insane amount of people. We'd have commercials, radio guests, anything to advertise. That is until we get a T.V. contract.

I call this leage idea............NPL. National Paintball League.

Tell me what you think.

I just wanna know how you came up with 'NPL' as a name? Must have taken ages....not that it's similar to NPPL or anything..

I like the offense/defense idea, but the fields you propose are too large for 5 man, and player regeneration would suck. You'd be better off making it 7 or 10 man teams and forgetting about the regeneration. I also like the "end zone" idea as opposed to start boxes. It's been proposed before, and something about it has always appealed to me. The time format seems maybe a bit long. The visible paintballs don't seem like that great an idea to me. It would be too distracting. You can see paintballs fly through the air fairly well without making them like tracer rounds. And a 12 bps cap is far too low, unless your proposed league allows full auto/ramping, in which case it would be easier just to use the already standing 15 bps NXL rule.

That might be an interesting format to try out, but doesn't really seem any more or less spectator friendly than Xball or traditional 7 man. Once you put fast paced speedball in front of spectators who haven't seen it before, I don't think miniscule rule changes or game details will really enhance or detract from their enjoyment or dislike of the game.

one major flaw i see is if you're 'defending' and it's starts going bad, whats to stop you taking yourself out the game thus stopping the offense scoring? if it's 5 on 1 you're about to concede a point, shoot yourself, no more defense on the field, offense can't get a point, restarts 5 on 5.... hardly seems fair.

Interesting ideas and this sort of thing would be nice to try out. Offense/defense could work in paintball too.

However, implementing renegeration would put referees in a world of trouble. Teams could have designated run-thru players. For example one or two players could do run-thru right away every time he/they get back to field after regenerating and try to blow the game open. Others would just try to keep the opponents in bay and wait for the next run-thru. Players running around in this way for five/ten/fifteen minutes straight would make the reffing very hard.

[edit: Tony beat me in this thing] Needing opposing player to stay in game when the flag is hung needs some thinking too, last player could shoot himself in foot to make the opponents lose scoring possibility :p.

Actually implementing offense/defense to X-Ball could be done very easily and I think it should be tried right away. Just give the flag to one team to start with. That way the flag carrier would be a nice point for the cameras/spectators to follow and it would not need much of a rule chance either.

It would chance the "shoot everyone out and then find the flag if you remember"-game to players actually having to thing about if the offense is trying to get the flag thru defenders without eliminating everyone.

it's an idea but.....

The places you propose to set this up in will cost major amounts of money. If your hoping to get this started you need to get the major players involved nppl, psp ect.
But you got to remember these guys have spent loads of time an effort as well as money on there own products such as S7 AND X-BALL.
People just arnt going to change formats after spending so much time and money trying to get seven man and x-ball out to the masses.
But good luck anyway!

Whats to stop me just sitting there waiting for a regeneration player to come back on and take him out again, before he gets five feet from the box??

Seems to me you are trying to "change" something that doesnt need it.

X Ball for the pro's, and standard 7/10 man for the am's.

i think outside spectators may complain about how there is "nothing to follow" but watching xball i think this is a strength that this sport has. its different.

i only really see this happening on an xball field but i do like the idea, because you would then have something to follow.

i think richmond should try the offense/defense format out instead of centre flag. like an exhibition match.

may be better?
