Hmm... so it would be possible then that an insert for a 14" would be too long for a 12" barrel... or am I just missing the point?

Ah, ok.

So the inserts hold the ball perfectly for the length of the back section, then beyond that they're on their own... albeit with a little push.

Yep, the Freak is a two stage bore design, the back section which is the control bore and the front section for porting.

so you can change the bore of the barrel as you wish, but not the lengh, unless you want to buy another end piece, and more inserts, as the ones you have will then be too long or too short.
So was this earlier post valid or not?

Like, if I bought a 12" Freak set now for my Spyder, complete with inserts, but wanted to upgrade to 14" later on, I'd be able to just get the longer front without having to buy another load of inserts?

And if I later upgrade to, say, an Impy, all I'd need to do is buy an Impy back piece and all my inserts and fronts would still be usable? :D

Correct and to clarrify if you want a longer barrel all you need to buy is a longer front. if you change markers buy a new back section, thats it!

Everyone's a winner then! Especially Freak (SP?)...

Are any other barrels out there using the insert + split front/back design?
