Hi All,

I came accross this forum after speaking to someone at Mayhem paintball in Essex.

I've only really played on the odd day here and there at sites around Essex and after seeing some guys on the inflatable arena I'm really interested in that type of paintball which I think is called Speedball or Sup-air?

Is there anyway complete newbies like myself can get into this type of game?

At the moment I dont really have hundreds of pounds to splash out on my own kit - I also dont know if ill be good enough at it, but thought I'd see if someone could give me some pointers on where to start?

I have read bits about walk-on days, however all of the Essex teams don't seem to have websites to look at, maybe it just isn't very well advertised?
I've also grown to like woodland and scenario paintball quite a bit so thats something else I would consider... I play COD4 online quite a bit and the whole teamwork aspect makes it awesome.

Oh and a little about me I'm 24, live in Essex near Billericay and have a car so travelling (within reason) isnt really a problem.

Cheers
James

You think we all great ballers when we start? :)

Nope lol,

Thats why ballers train every week if they can or more to become great at paintball :)

Yeh thats fair enough I guess I just dont want to get drawn into forking out £500 for all new gear or similar and then finding out I can't do it, or theres no teams that will take me because of inexperience.

It's a shame I missed the Manchester thing by a day, how unlucky. Is there one in the southern part of the country at another point in the year?

Cheers

you could keep playing rental days for practice, or some sites will let you go to a walk-on and use a site gun (prob not all) + (you may get your arz kicked) but you can see how the play is and who knows, maybe someone may let you get a feel/drip of their gun for a round.

then you'll know if its worth £500 for your own kit

Depending on how far you are willing to travel there is a reball club in oxford that can give you a taste of tournament style play inside and also loan you all the kit you need.

First off, don't spend a penny!
Second, try to get hold of some of your local teams and explain where your at to them.
If you get no joy then travel down to D7's and talk to people there. Although the teams may seem intimidating at first, they will talk to you, and offer advice. Just don't try to talk to them 2 minutes before a game, and don't make a tw@t of yourself, ask reasonable questions and you'll get good advice.
If you can find a team first then they would probably have a spare set up which they could lend you to try. Just remember to pay your way, clean anything you've borrowed, listen to advice and "BUY SOME COFFEE's":p
Now going back to my first off:
A second hand Ion "off here"= £80,
A second hand air system "off here"= £75,
A hopper "off here"= £40
Goggles "off here" = £40
So that's £235 for everything that you need to start playing. Don't let anyone try to convince you that you'll be cack unless you have the latest turbowhackey 09, because it's rubbish. The ion isn't the best gun in the world but it's a good cheap basis for you to start playing on.
Master your techniques first and the only upgrade when you have too, you'll be a better player for it:cool:
Good luck amigo:)

Welcome to the forums.

I live & work in Wickford. So only about 10 minutes from you.

Don't the Mayhem Knight's train out of Mayhem Essex???

Maybe you could get a day with them, just to see if you;d be up for it.......

Lucky, that sounds like a really good idea I might just do that, so if I felt that... ok this is for me and I did buy a set of kit for like £250, would I then just approach teams and ask to play on like walk-on days?

And Wingnut - snap, i live in wickford I'm on the way towards Billericay so I'm really close to you... The Mayhem Knights were over at Mayhem paintball which was quite near to Brentwood if I remember rightly, it was about 45mins in the car. Really nice site though.

If you ever need any advice, just call in and ask (Trophyland in the High Street).

We're not as serious as some of the other teams. We only play once a month and don't train.

If this is the sort of team your looking for, then PM phil-boy on here. He's our Redkins B team Captain. I'm sure there may be a space available......
