Hi mate, I did product design at gcse, got an A* and wish i could have done it at A Level, my stupid sixthform dropped it when I got there
, I built my own riot shield for paintball and like to keep my creative mind alive so im loving this post.
Personally I would modify the top of the crossbow so that there is a barrel instead of a grove where the arrow would normally go.
The barrel should then have a hole in the top near the back of the barrel to beable to drop a paintball in. The barrel would need a split from about 25mm/1inch from the front depending on what material you make the barrel from, im thinking of aluminium, all the way to the back so that the barrel is nearly in half. this split will allow the use of a barrel so that the paintball doesnt simply just drop out of the grove when playing, whilst you can pull the wire back behind the hole to fire.
obviously you would then need a release and lock system for the wire so when you pull the trigger the wire can fire, just use a basic latch so when you pull the trigger the latch lowers and releases the wire.
So ye basically what im saying is make a crossbow then modify it by sticking a barrel on and it should work
