When you say "relatively cheap", what sort of budget are we talking? Do you have hopper/air/mask etc? There are quite a few threads on this subject so try scanning through some of them (search button ^^^) to get an idea of what's appropriate for you. For reliability, I will say Planet Eclipse make some excellent markers that are really simple to maintain and you can find an etek on here 2nd hand for around 220-250, which is a steal for what you're getting.

What's your budget? There are so many bargains out there at the moment, but your choice is dictated by how much you can afford. In terms of new gear, you can get (in some vague order of price) Proto SLG, Ion, PMR, Mini, Etek, all of which are great markers. But consider seriously buying second hand - the market is very cheap at the moment, so you can pick up last year's higher end guns for peanuts (much to the chagrin of those of us with a house full of old guns we can't shift!)

Above all try out as many different models as you can - every paintballer loves showing off their toy, so just ask around and people will usually let you have a rip at the chrono station with theirs. Look also at what the most people at your local site use - it's handy to have experienced owners on hand in case you have any problems with your marker.

For the sub £250 I would recommend you check out second hand high end guns about two or three years old, Ego 05(around £150) Ego 06 are available for that sort of cash.
You could get a new Mini those are around the two ton mark new and they can do what every other high end gun does.
If you can get some extra cash you could look at a Ego 07 (but I still prefer the 06) or a great offer if you are starting out is the Angel A1 for £495 and if you pay an extra £50 you also get a hopper and some playing kit.
Or you could check out this Angel offer from Lips for everything you need.
