Blooming heck that's a bit negative. Yes, we could have had more notice, yes people will always bicker about who's in or out of the team and who gets to make the choices ( particularly us Brits who like to moan about anything and everything).
Fact of the matter is, there's a field to be used, teams are showing interest and if the Brits can do well potentially get more media interest in the sport. Hats off to the lads who have had to put their hands in their pockets again to sort this ( it would be a sad sight to hold it in this country and we didn't have a team to represent us).
Let's just stop the moaning and get behind OUR TEAM and see if we can win this. We can always look to make improvements if it becomes a regular event and create a proper squad system if required.
C'MON TEAM GB!!!
There's an inherent danger here for the flag-waving brigade in that you can accuse people like Metrahla of being negative but in essence, all he's done is make observations, none of which are false, they are all actually true, all he is guilty of is being somewhat cynical !!!! ... there is however the other side of this event coin in that the people involved will always tend to make more of it than it actually is, thus elevating their own perceived position; this is always gonna happen and in fact, has already begun .... you only have to look at a couple of posts to see evidence of that.
The whole notion of a nation's cup has been resurrected many times and the only serious nation's event there has ever been was Richmond Italia's XBall inauguration event held in Pittsburgh, 2002.
All teams were given enough time to prepare and contained the world's best players and the media across the world had all been prepped well in advance .... this is the sort of nation's cup Metrahla was maybe thinking of when criticising this new re-invention that has just been plopped into people's laps.
The MS went about this in such a slap-dash sort of way that it has effectively compromised a lot of people and it wouldn't have taken that much to have done this somewhere near properly.
They could never have made the event actually mean anything because of the lack of precedent and accreditation but they certainly haven't helped matters in the way they have conducted themselves.
Bottom line is .... by all means everybody should support their own countries but it's probably best we don't lose sight of what this event actually means to paintball as a whole .... but the financial bottom line is? ..... think about that before you go waving any flags or bigging it up.
