Lanche wrote tha book as far as how a proper Paintball team should be viewed, how they dealt with tha media, tha whole rock n roll lifetsyle thang...like em or not, they took what it means to be a pball team onto tha next level, no question.

Yup

Definately the Preds, they set the benchmark for UK paintball (not that I was around in ball back then) from what I heard from Twizz and co. We need more baddass teams.

Banzais anyone?? They may have flagged towards the end of their career but they could still whupp some teams up and showed some great fair play and teams spirit. Banzais main downfall was they lost touch with the modern game, didn't adapt and take ideas from other, younger teams and fell behind the times.

The most pioneering UK team there has ever been has to be the Preds, they not only dominated Europe for God knows how many years, they took their game Stateside and whooped Yank ass all over the place, a feat that the Barts never duplicated.

As for the most pioneering team of all time, it has to go to the Russian Legion; they showed the world of paintball, that you can beat the Americans, if you train the right way.
The Yanks have basked in an almost defaulted policy of cherry picking, paying relatively little heed to any sophisticated training.
The Russkies have shown us all the way to go.

Yep probably a valid point, put I'd imagine that the NPPL may have some reservations about the regeneration of Dead Paintballers? Not that I'd mind too much it's just the death and the ice bath thingy that bothers me a little.

Ok seriously though, surely it must cost a fortune for the RL to train, especially when you look at the cost of equipment etc versus average wage etc (I mean like a Big Mac costs about a 2 days wages or something), so how do they do it????? Do they have some kinda secret Ural's base they use where the whole team practices calls such as "I must Break you", or have I simply being made paranoid by watching too many circa 1980's - 1990's U.S. action movies?

What are these "sophisticated training methods"? Which of these can we develop in the lower levels team game?

I think if your talking "ambassadors" of the game then Nexus are obviously that for the UK at present (and others to quite an extent), however we need some of the techno skills to make it down to a grass roots level otherwise we're only ever going to have a handful of players who can ever match the Americans, who will probably dominate by strength of numbers and attrition alone. Will The Gospel of Comrade Robbo be further spread through the UK ballers, or is it a state of awareness we need to achieve for ourselves (is this a dumb question)? I think that once the training can be broken down and furthermore communicated to all players in the UK, then we have the most "pioneering" UK team of all. I believe that this will be Nexus (for the UK at least), in time, it's just they have to reach fruition as a team first before spreading the gospel. Not a criticism just a thought......discuss.........anyone?

Comrade Robo won't share the real secrets he and Sergei have their little conflabs about, cos he wants Nexus to have an edge. He keeps tha good stuff for himself and his team, as does Sergei.

Question: Is Robo's role as chief tactical/technical writer in Pball being compromised by his role as team coach of Nexus?

Discuss.

My role on the magazine isn't compromised at all, as long as what I write makes sense, and is of course relevant, then my end of any journalistic responsibility is upheld.

There are things that I do to keep to myself for the benefit of the team but none of it is rocket science, it's there for everybody to discover or work out :)

Techniques
I will give ya some clues...think of every aspect of the game of paintball..then determine the most important, then break them down and work out the optimum way of performing them.
Once that is done, organise your training so as to achieve those optimum actions.

Tactics
Work out what wins games that doesn't involve any technical aspects, keeping the analysis as simple as you can, once you have done this, try to understand the fundamentals in tactical play and in this way, you can begin to think about developing game-plans.

And in the end, I will of course, spill the beans but until then...... hee hee :)
