Yep, no question you get lucky & unlucky players & all other things being equal I know which I would want to play with!

Determination to win & drive are other "soft skills" that can also make the difference.

Stayin' alive??

I wouldn't say that was a skill, more of an essential part of the game and an integration of various skills.

Anyway, I think Vision and communication are key skills. You gotta be able to read a game and tell your buddies what you're planning.

No skill, no talent, just heart...

I agree with Liz, will to win is crucial...you gotta want it more than tha other guys does and you get to walk onto that field believing that you totally own tha other team, doesn't matter if it's your first ever game and you're taking on Avalanche.

I'd also place major store on vision...some players can mentally see moves that others never would in a million years

Or perhaps the mod

8) the ability to enjoy themselves. What's the point in playing if you don't enjoy it? Have fun!

is trying to assist the mentally challenged or the intentionally thick. :) Put yourself in either category as appropriate. :D Consider it my good deed for the day.
No. 6--still needs work.
No. 7--see first comment.
No. 8--so that's why you travel about watching?

Baco, I think in seriousness the ability to know when to duck to avoid paintballs on the field is important. I've seen so many people shot out for hanging out just a fraction too long.

Yep I travel around because I enjoy it. (I also play on my travels if that's what you were getting at ;) )

I did stop playing tournaments for a little while (I've been in tourny ball for 11 years now!) because it lost the fun but I am now back heavily into tourney play.

that has a different connotation over there, doesn' it?
Avoiding paintballs seems to me part of staying alive. But, hey, you say tomato and I say tomato--loses something without the inflection doesn't it?;)

Agreed

I think staying alive covers ducking but also a lot more.

Like knowing what moves are good to make. How to come out of a bunker. Not to trade. When to snap shoot. When to wrap and when not, lines of running... all sorts of stuff really.

Fruit and Vegetables are good just as long as you don't spell any root vegetables with an 'e' at the end like some of your countries leaders... :D

SA or situational awareness is probably one of the most important aspects of it...everything else follows after...

With good SA you can see the way a game develops and take advantage.....making the best moves depend on being able to see the lanes and oppurtunities....
