I have been looking for a cheaper alternative to the grease you get from smart parts/planet for my shocker. I have found some castrol grease which is/contains moly. The only problem that I can find is it is high temp grease where as Dow 33 for the shocker is low temp grease. Will this work or can anyone suggest any other alternative that will work. The problem is cost vs quantity. Dow33 is about £14 for a small tube where as I can get a bloody big tub of this castrol moly for a fiver.

Yo!

My theory is:

High temp - Is used for car valves etc, high RPM and lots of warm and friction. Grease that is high temp will only start acting once a certain temp is reached (thats why the 1st ten secounds on a car engine are the most harmful).

Low Temp - needs only a low temp (ie friction) to start working its magic.

So unless you plan to use a hairdryer on your marker before playing a game, i suggest you stick to the Dow 33 matey :D

I've found a place where I can get LOW TEMP bearing grease £6.00 for 400g. It's range is -50 -> +120 degrees c. Would this do the job? If you like I can mail you the spec sheet.

What properties does the grease have to have to not break my shocker and keep it lubed?

Forget the rest get advice from the best

Try a diving shop for Dow 33 because believe it or not this is what scuba divers use for greasing thier regs. Oh and because it is not paintball related you pay normal prices. You can get a bloody huge tube of the stuff for about £15. If they don't stock this they will have an equivelent grease which will be just as good and just as cheap:D

The place to buy Molykote 33 from is...
R W Greef
Timmis Rd
Lye, Stourbridge
West Midlands
DY9 7BJ
Tel: 01384 897969

These guy's are the UK distributers - nice and cheap.

Do not use the Castrol stuff..Molykote does not contain Molybendium, its Silicone based with Lithium soap thickener..These are not the same types of grease. Molybendium based gease is used in the automotive industry for high temps.SP will also void your warrenty if you use any other type of grease.
