I didnt do it but it looks pretty good, sounds like a good idea, maybe you could get a rasta Halo by dying it?

when I painted my eggy I used those little posts of paint from Warhammer. I used some gold spray paint with a brush to put the symbols on, then coated it in Varnish again from Warhammer.

No scratches, no flaky paint good even colour, although inside the finish looks a bit crap because the varnish went all drippy and theres runs and blobs of varnish. I would reccomend using a spray varnish.

I like the fade effect mate, but I wouldnt have sprayed it on the outside, if you get a hit it might crack and flake it off, even though its varnished.

Robof9 was this sortof like it

Although its good...its not as good as the Joy dyed hopper

Also if you just buy a Red Halo, and cut Ganga leaves/whatever pattern you like out of opaque plastic film, like glaziers plastic sort of, and stick it on it looks well good. Lee had some on his red Halo theyre wicked if you cut them out well

benb, dying will take several hours, takes a lot of time and effort to set up, and the dye is expensive. Mistakes are permanent. But then so is the effect, and it wont flake off or chip.

Spraying is easier and quicker

If you want a solid colour, then use model paint, eg: little pots from warhammer.

If you want a fade effect, you'll have to use two different colours of spray paint (either model paint or car spray paint).

1. plan what you want, get all the materials, split the hopper, take out all of the moving parts, electrical bits, boards etc, and the feedneck (remembering where they go :p).
2. whether you spray or paint on the stuff, do it on the INSIDE, apply a light coat, if there're runs or drips you've put too much on. -you can always put on a second layer later (after the first one is completely dry)
3.wait for paint to dry. is the paint layer thick enough? if not put another layer on (it will take longer to dry and will be prone to chipping/flaking if its too thick so be careful
4.this is the biggie. VARNISH IT if you forget or cba the paint will chip flake off and come off onto your paintballs. Use a varnish out of a pot (eg: from warhammer)- this is less likely to flake off, or choose a clear varnish/overcoat car spray. again wait till its dry
5. put the motor, feedneck etc back in, making sure you dont crush the wires as you put the shells back together

thats for painting, and the instructions for dying are at http://www.68caliber.com/features/articles/story04736.php

Painting is cheaper than spraying, and spraying/painting is cheaper and less labour intensive than dyeing.
