It would of been nice to see a Sup Air speedball rather than the one used and there was a bit too much camo knocking around...

As for the football!!!!!!!!! AAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHH !!! I couldn't believe it when I saw it!

But all in all it was good and v.good for the sport.

Yeah I liked the show, although a bit short and as you say, would of been nice to see some proper Sup Air and I was hoping they'd show some action from tournaments. Plus the action was hard to follow if you aren't a paintballing regular. I really liked the Toulouse World Cup 2000 video with it's overlaid graphics showing the field and player movements, while also keeping score of how many players are left on each team. Wish more videos would do that as it makes it much easier to see plays and follow the action, something important to get more interest in the Sport. Although I know, it took them a long time to do that, so I guess for this show and many videos it's just too much hassle. I guess this is a just sky testing the water with paintball and I guess I'm expecting a little too much. But I'm sure with the resources of Sky Sports they could easily do the same in a shorter time though.

Hopefully they'll look at the viewing rating and if they think there is demand maybe they'll be more responsive to requests to show proper Tournaments as well. I was wondering, maybe we should start a petition and then hand it into Sky to give more weight to producing more 'paintball' related shows, be it covering major tournaments, shows covering equipment reviews and team interviews etc. At the end of the day, Sky or any TV network aren't going to do our sport any favours out of the kindness of their heart, but if we can show there are potentially big viewer rating to be had with paintball, they might put more weight behind our sport. Petitions could be done at local paintball sites, tournaments etc, plus there are a number of web based petition websites too to make it easier for people with access to the Internet.

You want Sup 'Air?

Just to keep you all up to speed on Mission: Paintball. The finals will be filmed at the Campaign Cup so your requests for inflatables will be granted. I know that some of the games looked a bit "punter" but that was the idea, to appeal to a wider audience rather than just players. Hope you all enjoyed it and remember to keep watching as it only gets better!!!:)

Absolutely!!!

Neil's right - as i said too!!!

There is no good promoting tournament paintball to the public - they will not understand it.

They want to see 'wargames' (yes yes we hate that but it is how the public perceive it and WANT to play it - I tell people I am goig to Toulouse/Joymasters, whatever, and I am always asked things like 'do you get grenades, sniper rifles' etc) and it is wargames that captures their imagination. You do that and people will be willing to go give it a try!!

As most tournament players did - they started at their local rental site playing war type scenarios and loving it - only moving on and up when they realised that they wanted competition and to own their own kit!!!

Mr Squires and Bravo have done a great thing here - I just hate being in front of the cameras - if you think we all look like tits whooping it up and hamming a bit - take it easy on us - we were doing it for everyone (and getting a bit of TV time too!!!!)

Um, did you pay one bit of attention to the Toulouse event? They directly marketed tournament paintball to the non paintball playing fans AND IT WORKED BETTER THAN ANY PUBLIC PAINTBALL VENTURE EVER HAS. If we want a good, solid relationship with the public then we should show them our world as it is instead of heaping loads of makeup and other bull**** on it. Instead, be honest and open. Show them our best. They saw our best in Toulouse, and they liked it just fine. In fact, they loved it. So to get it to work, do it just like they did in France: it's a win win situation for both sides because then we as players, referees, and organizers don't have to put on any kind of fake act that is unfamiliar and quite honestly a cop out, just do what we do best to the best of our ability. That way it's real. Only reality lasts, the real, genuine stuff, not phony cardboard makeup crap.

Mr Onion

You are way out my friend.

Yes i did pay attention to the Toulouse event - I was there and yes I was very impressed at the non-paintball playing turn out.

I was also there last year and the turn out was not anywhere near that.

Why?? Because this year they advertised the event extremely heavily. The people that turned up did so because they were interested and were prepared to make the effort. If the same people had watched the same paintball on TV would they have been as impressed?? Could they follow the game and understand it???

They were there, maybe 1000 non paintball players, and all came away with a positive impression. It is a good start but the Bravo TV gig should reach more people and get them interested.

As for 'heaping loads of makeup and other bull**** on it' you just do not understand what was trying to be done. Show the public something that will get there imagination and get them playing at grass roots.

Get everyone aware of what paintball is about and then we can get tournaments into the public eye.

By increasing the mass appeal we will increase the specialised appeal that tournament ball has.

Mark

And by the way - your tone stinks my friend - try calming it down and lets talk sensibly.

killeronion your jumping the gun

People in general aren't going to sit down to watch tournament paintball on TV if they don't understand it.

Sure tournaments bring some better players, but it also brings with it alot of rules and regulations. If you don't understand how a game of ice hockey works are you really going to sit down and watch for a long period of time.

Another issue is that tournament games are too short to be televised in reality. By taking games back to the woods with "missions" and "objectives" the game can be spread out alot more. Also people who are new to the ideas of paintball will understand as the game takes place, not just at the end asking what was all that about.

I know what your getting at, but things cannot be rush:cool:

Simon, I believe the opposite problem exists: it's being way too delayed. If we advertised and marketed like Toulouse was done at that time and like EVERY OTHER GAME AND PRODUCT ON THE WHOLE DAMN FACE OF THE PLANET, we'd have as huge a following nearly every time. But for some reason the paintball community insists on sitting on its ass or tossing around stupid Disney **** ideas. All the goofing around with silly grenades, woods scenario games, etc. is just too clunky and it has been done with only very small success, not at all broad appeal.

Rules and regulations of tournaments being a problem? What could be simpler?!! Paintball's rules are among the simplest of any sport out there; people pay very good attention to sports that are much slower, unchanging, and apparently random. Don't assume that anyone in the public is enough of a moron to not be able to comprehend a paintball tourney on TV. Yes, yes, I know the people you see in the newspapers and TV and that you're led into believing that they are human beings, but believe me the audience you'd want to market paintball to is at least somewhat more intelligent than that.

What the hell are we so scared about? A lot of causes these days that don't have half the right to exist or brains that paintball has get complete credibility and news coverage simply because they grab the microphone and announce their presence. Yoga, for example, is complete and total nonsense but is visible nearly everywhere because it promotes itself. Corona is the worst liquid to ever be labeled beer, but because you see ads nearly every time you turn on the television it sells at nearly every bar, pub, and restaurant in the US and thousands of them in the UK.

Even though tons of people think things like that are total crap, millions obviously buy them regularly. But if they weren't advertised to the point of brainwashing, no one would ever touch them. Now why is it such a stretch to think that we can't do the same? Even if two million viewers see it and don't get it or change the channel, you can bet that at least as many will understand it and give it a second look.

It's more than worth the effort if you simply look at the odds.
