if indeed it is the Consilllium spot does,nt that knock the last plank of respectability and Milleniums claim to be the pinnacle of European paintball ?? If the team who most deserve to be there by right can be replaced by some wealthy wannabes because of cash,or lack of ,what is the point in everyone trekking round Europe since you could compare bank statements on line?? No wonder you cant get recognised as a sport

I'm sure if they arent taking the spot, they will have there reasons. Not everything is as cut and dry as "we've got the spot, lets play it" on top of that are loads of contributing factor. Maybe they've lost players and don't feel that they can put a strong squad in to compete with the best. Maybe they dont have the financial backing to train every weekend, and then play each millennium. Maybe, they just don't feel they can win.

Look at the teams that get offered a spot, and just can't compete, Dagnir Dae, for example. took promotion and then where have they been? narrowly missed out on relegation last season, lost players and look where they are now? relegated. Going from a winning side, to a losing side will take its toll on players.

I don't feel that one team not taking a spot reflects on the Millennium's standing amongst the european series. It IS the top series, if you like it or not. I know I don't. But where else do you get all nationalities playing? I don't even think the centurio is still running. And needless to say, if a team doesnt deserve to be there, by next year they wont be.

Some valid points Dave and yes Millenium is the dominant series in Europe. But as they claim the CPL to be the top 16 in Europe ,you cannot then tout a spot and retain this claim. All the reasons for not taking the spot are valid .At lower levels ie div 2 teams such as Relentless are a top quality team who cannot raise finances / major time commitments asked for therefore play at an affordable position below their ability level. But we are agreeing that the team that has won the SPL ,cant take their place .... so how is any team further down the ladder going to cope with the pressures that the SPL champuion team cant?? By the very fact they cannot win this division surely it rules them out ?? The offer should slide down the SPL,in positional order,to at least to attempt to retain a degree of meritocracy.Either that or remove the word best and settle for Biggest

Ah! I see you're point now. I was slightly under the weather last night when i wrote my reply, and i'm generally impressed with how coherent it was.

As a general rule, the spot is passed down the ladder until a team accepts. So this does question who's spot this is, because i'm not sure that a team would be allowed to accept the spot, and then sell straight away. But then this is the millennium....

I fail to see why they would not be allowed to do this. They earned that spot after competing in the SPL and it is theres to do what they want with it.
A lot of money is needed to fund a team that can compete in the CPL and a lot of the time that money just isnt there. And lets not forgot that since the Millennium scrapped the prize system for all division apart from the CPL most teams are playing for pride and fun........ which doesnt pay the bills
