Now that is interesting...I've always thought one of the failings of MS has been the 3 prelim games at the top level - the champs/challengers system in the states added a little spice to all the games... I wonder where this will leave Nexus?

I had been thinking the same about Nexus but if this year is anything to go by (eg. Tigers and Icon leaving but relegation still happening) then they will still go down.

True they did with Tigers and Icon disbanding, but...this is a new bracket format. I think they'll leave them up, and pull top 4 from SPL.

This is of course betting on no other pro teams bailing.

It would make the most sense .Since you will already be promoting 1st to 4th from SPL ,it's hardly like the 5th and 6th teams can claim "to have been robbed" when finishing bottom of the top 1/4 of the div. Someone on FB asked for same for the SPL.Since they currently have 24teams .You promote 4,leaving 20,4 groups of 5, giving the 4 prelims. Taking top 2 to Sunday for quarters.8 of 20 means over 1/3rd playing Sunday .Format prepares teams while retaining the "value" of SPL.

I think one of the problems the CPL teams have had is the gulf between the top 4-6 teams, the mid-tier and the lower end of the division - for 3 of the events, the semi-finals had the same 4 teams, and was only different in Paris because those top4 teams met in the quarter finals instead.

The mid-tier has been shaken up a little this season with newcomers Scorpions Milano, PP Arena and Drammen Solid performing strongly, but the seeding system meant that you could pretty accurately guess 6-7 of the 8 teams that would be in Sunday Club, leaving the other teams to fight for scraps. The aim for the lowest teams in each group only seemed to be to beat the 3rd ranked team to help avoid relegation at the end of the season, and to hope that with a slightly higher ranking maybe they'd get an easier group next time. If they could beat the top or second seed in their group that would have been a huge bonus.

Splitting the division in 2 and increasing the number of games makes it more worthwhile for all of the teams to be there - Champion teams have more interesting/challenging games, Challenger teams have something to play for and everyone gets more field time for the investment in time and money they've made to be there.

If you look at the cpl field ,they have big gaps ,SPL and Nations games included .Will lead to playing greater spread of opponents and more for the fans to watch.Where Nexus are ? Probably back in CPL .But just like the past 3 years in need of big improvements to live with the best in Europe .Where investment in player and financial terms have left the whole GB player base behind.
