Eh, no actually. If I buy (for instance) a copy of RHCP Californication, then I am quite within my consumer rights to obtain a track off that CD on another media (MP3 off the web) as I have paid the dues on it, also, I can then play that track in public as long is is not for monetary gain i.e at MM.

My issues are not legally driven, more morally.

1. Do you have a licence for public performance m*
2. The copyright laws actually do not allow any form of copying, so it is illegal to copy any music onto tape or CD unless you have prior permission. It's not enforced to the letter of the law because obviously it would mean everybody would be guilty. BUT that is the Law

As I said

It is more for reason of morals, you can quite legally 'back up' your music collection, as this is the loophole that was exploited with the dawn of the internet. As for public performance, if you are driving down the street with your music blaring, does that class as a public performance?? I didnt think so. By that rationale, if I park my car next to the tent, and play music on my car stereo, is THAT a public performance??

The Audio Home Recording Act, a law passed in 1992, says that copyright holders can't sue people who are making personal home copies of music - This goes back to the days of a home CD player, but only a tape deck in your car, as long as you are only listening to one at a time, the industry was happy to agree to the terms of the Act.

Look, at the end of the day, this is not about the law. I can (and probably will) argue with you till hell freezes over, but more likely the thread will be deleted long before that.

Any laws are open to interpretation (every act/law in the UK is subject to the 'interpretation of the act' and I know all about them), mine is that I can do what I like as long as long I am not distibuting media, and I am not a paid DJ etc.

Anyway, Blakey may think this is an awful idea and put a stop to it soon anyway, so dont worry about it ;)

Some Linkin Park, Nickleback, Metalicca, or Def Lep wouldn't go amiss.

Maybe we'll organise a dj for the Saturday before round 5, and not during, what do you think............??
