Unless a female player is a male player's partner, it can be quite difficult to get into many teams, and an "all-girl" team is sometimes the only way they can prove they have the skills to get selected for other teams. There are also a few advantages to having an all-female team, as it attracts a lot of attention and thereby more sponsorship than may be expected. Also talking from the point of someone who has captained both a mixed team (2 females and 10 males) and an all female team, I can tell you that there are some big differences in team dynamics and it can be lots of fun playing with all girlies.Originally posted by Darkwerks
I've always found it curious that some female players, while advocating non-discrimination by sex, are quite happy to play on "women only " teams or "women only " tournys.
I'll happily play on any team I can get a game with, but when I came back after a long break (5 years) I found no-one willing to give me a chance except an all-girls team despite me having played sucessfully at Am previously. Was this down to fitness? No, I was less mobile before I gave up for a while (which is one reason WHY I stopped for a bit). Was it because I didn't have the up to date equipment? Well with the loan of an Angel plus an Impulse from Smart Parts whenever I wanted, that was unlikely. Was it because I'm female & not particularly cute? Maybe, bearing in mind that male players in the same situation or with less advantages didn't have the same problem!
And Darkwerks - can you honestly be suggesting that I'm not willing to mix it up with guys as well as with girls? You really should know better than that!
