as far as im aware you should be able to. i was just about to write a load about impys using Low pressure, but then i remembered CO2 is about 800psi ish which is about the same as a preset.
Im no expert on impys, so i might be completely wrong, but the only problem i would expect would be consistancy being a bit off as you have no secondary reg.
so long as you dont use CO2 then change to air straight away, as in straight away time wise, it should be ok as ive heard the seals can be affected if you do that.
please, do correct me if im wrong. :)

a preset air system will scew straight onto your impy and work like a dream.......
I did with mine (this is going back about two years) and noticed an improvement in consistency straight away. Another advantage is that your barrel wont get iced up either!! oh i remember the days when gloves were worn to prevent your hand getting stuck to your gas-thru.... how times change:D
hope this was helpful and not just some fool reminiscing(?) about the "good old days" ok nuff said see ya

Yeah to do this though he'll need an inline reg! at the mo he has a LP maxxy running into a gas through grip.... at least that's how it looks to me.

[edit] on a closer look it's an old maxxy. Do they take screw in pres sets?[/edit]

the preset screw in air system will screw straight into the MAX-FLOW

dont screw it into your front asa as it will blow your solenoid!!

to make it REALLY CLEAR put it wear your CO 2 bottle used to go :)

Firstly: yes, you can plug a preset air system straight into that without any other changes at all.

Secondly, I believe (though you should check this) that if you prefer, you can mount a 3000psi air bottle directly to it, if fitted with the right type of valve. Check with someone like SP or Planet, as they should be able to tell you if I'm talking complete bullcrap, and sell you the right valve if I'm not.

just to clarify rabies' post:
DON'T PUT 3000PSI AIR INTO THAT REG!!!!

It is only certified for 1000 psi or so, and after that it may well explode!

You can put a 3000psi bottle on it, using a reverse thread adapter (available from SP europe), but only ever fill it with CO2!
