May help....

If you've got a lot of ex-rent masks, then you may be able to try them on and get a feel for what mask fits you head size and shape.

Most will adapt pretty well but it IS a starting point. From there if you find one you like then order online. If you aren't too happy with doing that, then search for a local pb field and enquire about shops in your area. If they give you the same ones or recommend themselves and no-one else (always a danger) phone back and ask them the same thing but from a lightly further away 'home town' to try and get them to reco somewhere else. Not the brightest of tactics, but they generally know the best places, getting the info can just sometimes be a ball ache.

Good luck!!

As pointed out to us this weekend, the Profilers do have some potential safety niggles.

If you press your thumb against the vents in the faceplate, they open up to a larger size. It is possible, in theory, for shell to be spread under the faceplate on a burst.

The area where the faceplate joins the lens also bows out with pressure, possibly same reaction.

This aside, profilers have the best vision and are certainly the most comfortable. Personally I prefer JT masks, the thermal lenses give enough vision for me to see what I need to and never fog no matter how sweaty it gets. The latest JT Proflex's are sweet as a nut.

It's a preference thing though......go with what you feel best with. But never buy JT Nvaders, they're uncomfortable and get very sweaty.... :p

I totally agree there.... JT nVaders are a bit sucky. Most JT spectra lens based masks are good. The best being most pro-flex models. Exept for the ELZ (i think thats right) the face part is TOO flexible and paint can hit you in the teeth.

Also extreme-rage masks pull down on your face and make your face hurt after 20 mins so stay clear of those.

DYE invisions are also very nice but provide less throat protection, also expensive.

But the best way forward would definatly be to try some on and see what you like. Remember to avoid fogging, get thermals.

Gotta jump to the defense of the profilers.

A couple of things were shown to us at the weekend but

You could not open the vents to a paintball size. this is an exxageration. Yes there is some movement there and paint may come through the vents but a whole ball coming through without braking and with enough force to do you damage is about as likely as with any other mask, especially the flimsy face guard of a Jt proflex.

The nose guard can be displaced with quite a bit of continued pressure by placing your thumb on the ridge and pushing down with opposing pressure from the other side with your other hand. No offense but applying the same pressure in the same manner to a finger would probably probably break it. A ball hits with impact pressure and is dispersed along the surface of the mask. it doesn't apply continual pressure on a same spot.

I've been using a profiler from the moment they came out. I've worn them for marshalling, training, rec ball and tournaments. I've been hit in all sorts of places in the face from all sorts of distances and never once worried about the structural integrity of my goggles.

However mine is the humble opinion of a banker not a scientist.

I would recommend taking the opinions of the experts in this field before making claims about the safety of pieces equipment on wholesale that will be subject to the most stringent of rules.

Not a dig at you Nik, but once again bigging up your own gear with only detrimental comments about equipment you've never owned;) be careful mate

Blahhhh.......bov'd.

Erm, Chris, exactly where did I detriment the Profilers, I think I just claimed the Profilers to be the better mask available, but then pointed out something that was mentioned to us at the weekend...

You know, just ;'cos you say something isn't a dig, it doesn't mean that you're not having a dig.....

...prepares to look over shoulder before EVER TYPING ANYTHING EVER AGAIN.

Nik, I would never have a dig at you, I'm your staunchest supporter. Man I love you:D

I was just pointing out the flaws in your argument. You cant make a statement like that without all the correct facts, as you are affecting consumer opinion. For some reason people do listen to you as your knowledge is extremely broad (like your forehead:p ) on these matters. You've just gotta be careful about what you say and how you say it

I dont know which are the best, i've only ever tried 3 pairs of goggles on in my life, sorry, four cause I own a pair of invisions now as well. but profilers are good.

How can telling someone that a ball is gonna get through your lense and smash you in the face not be detrimental?

Thanks for all this input. So far I have seen some masks made by Java(not interested). Ive seen the JT NVader, I was gonna get that until I saw these reviews. I am trying to get the invision. But other than the invision, I havn't seen anything decent.
