You talking about rec ball marshalling or tourni? I'm guessing rec ball.
- The ability to control your group.
- Ensure everyone keeps their Gogs on, and don't be afraid to shout at people if they keep taking them off.
- Be friendly
- Make sure everyone has a good day

what do you look for in a good marshal??

one thing i really hate when i play is when ive crawled or moved up thr field and a marshall stands right ontop of me looking at me.this givesw my position away.

stand back untill they call for a paint check and you think they may be hit.
sometimes people just call paint checks without firing a shot in the hope a marshall will run upto them and give their position away!

If a marshal stands right on top of you it could also screw your back up, so i'd speak up if that happens in future.

I've been a Marshall for 4 years now and I've learnt you need to let the groups enjoy themselves but not let them get carried away, your always gonna get a group of idiots shooting each other but don't annoy them by telling them to stop every 5 mins or you'll end up a walking target all day.

You might want to take out a 'spare gun' and a few balls, say its in case theirs breaks and just pop off the annoying ones in the head all day, really helps ur aim, better than training and increases job satisfaction. :D

Marshalls who shoot the customers who pay their wages

Dazzly, stay firm with them and be aware of what your customers want is very important. Every group you deal with will be different in their own way so be flexible with your attitude. If you're dealing with a load of kids then you may need to act a lot more like an authority figure whereas if you are dealing with a group of lads then you can afford to let a lot of things slide. If you are constantly jumping on them just because they do the mildest thing wrong then you aren't gonna make friends or return customers.

There is a bit of an art to marshalling rec games, knowing where to stand to make the most of your eyeballs is extremely important. Stand miles away from the action and you're useless, stand in the middle of everything and you'll get in the way of the game and get shot to ****. Over time you'll learn where the hot spots are on each of your site's fields, its usually a case of basing yourself around these and becoming familiar in the way each field flows. Customers are there to have fun and enjoy themselves. It isn't a tournament, so if one team is getting their asses kicked then don't be afraid to help out. If that means offering advice on the field to a new player who really doesn't know what they are doing, then do it.

Also, remember mashalling is a team activity, you'll be working with at least one other marshall during the day so make sure you are aware of how they like to do things and how you can assist, especially if you're a newbie.

gotta agree with everyone above, its not easy work, and with every jobs you get idiots, its just unfortunate these idiots have markers. but dont get angry and be patient that way you can enjoy the good parts of the job like most of the people who go there, and normaly the other marshals are a good laff.

qualities:

*patience (quite alot sometimes)
*knoweledge (of equipment/rule's etc)
*the abiltiy to know how to treat different people
*Out going
*fit and not adverse to pain

and a tip from me, have fun the players will respect you more for it, and if they do something wrong, tell them why its wrong, more people will listen then. for example after a game a lot of people seem to enjoy dry firing markers, the times when ive explained that this isnt wise because each bottle has to be refilled 3-4 times a day and the more time we spend on refilling the less time they have playing, plus its a pain in the posterior, most people listen. oh and aviod the temptation to get even, most people are pumped up on adrenaline during paintball so things can escalate very quickly.

Me 141 NEVER!!!
All u need to remember is that u are superior to them. Your decision is final and make sure they respect your athoriety. Also when u stop for tea and fag breaks mingle with the punters and have a chat with because if u are having a laugh with them they will respect you which means you are less likely to get a few shoots in the back of the head. It dosent if you are 18 or 30 as long as you know what you are doing then its all good!

Few things to remember-

*goggles on
*make sure you sound as if you know what u are doing (you dont want to sound like a tit)
*patience
*your decision is final
*have a laugh with the punters
*be prepared to take a few in the head

And enjoy yourself at the same time;)

Peace out

thats a very good point i forgot that shadow made, it does realy help if you can find the time to mingle with the punters, normaly the only real chance i get to do that is at the start of the day, after we've sorted all the kit out.

yeah all of the above, and a few helping hands like how to hold a gun to get the best accuracy and stuff like that is nice too
