Low Pressure secondary Regs, like really low!

Hmmm Ian,

You have a Low Pressure front reg combo like a jackhammer yeah?

One of the reasons these are great is that they enable you to seperate the input pressure and the solenoid pressure

The solenoid will blow and around 200Psi so you cant ever put more than this into it!

But with a front reg you can run your gun much higher (people have been getting good results around 300psi) greatly increasing efficiency!

With your lightweight internals you shouldnt worry too much about kick as it is the firing system which affects this most not the pressure!

What you want to do is increase the input pressure not decrease it with a low pressure reg! Then lower the solenoid pressure to about 110! This will give you a very effective marker with more pressure behind the bolt giving a better shot!

I think........ :p ;)

Well I was thinking i'll probably get a few boxes of cheap site paint and sit infront of the chrono trying out each setup with about 1000 balls, and see which works and feels best, and then take it from there.

Cheers for the advice guys!

Oh, one more quick question.

If i'm running a jackhammer reg to control the solenoid pressure, can I ditch the blow off valve thingy? Or should I keep it in case some muppet gets near my gun, or the jackhammer goes wrong?

I would recommend sticking on the back of the solenoid chamber, just in case. It'll look a bit funny, but if it saves your solenoid, you'll be glad it's still there. Get a nice shiny silver one if u want it to look bling :D

As QP said,

If you decide to run your impy at above 200psi using the jackhammer to bring down the noid pressure you will need to move the release valve as it will just vent the whole time!

Move it to the back of your gun the opposite end to where the tapeworm goes in! That way if your lp reg goes down your solenoid is saved! (hopefully)

Thats only if you dont trust your front reg

Oh and the tank on the other gun is a 1.5L 4500! Seems that it wasn't setup properly from new I guess. Oh well, never trust an expert! Originally the gun was doing 700 rounds from a 68, very poo!

So anyway, I still want a very shiney low pressure reg with a high bling factor, any more recommendations?

I ran a Bob Long Torpedo (which comes in nice shiny chrome, for that bling bling factor) on my Impy and it worked very well. It's a good low pressure reg, as is the Sidewinder, which costs a bit more. I also have internals very similar to what you are using.

In kicking these issues around with guys on Impulse Owners Group, many people have found that the performance of the ND RIP valve starts to drop above about 160 or 170 psi input pressure. Using your same internals with a ND Stubby bolt and no LPR, I was running my Imp at about 160 psi input pressure and 3 or 4 beeps up on the dwell. My velocity was 280 fps +- about 5 fps.

When I installed my Jack II LPR with the RIP Valve, I suddenly ended up with wicked first shot drop off, which I didn't have before. If I let the Imp sit for 20 second, the first shot barely left the barrel. I found that the only way to cure it was to increase my pressure slightly to 170 psi or so and my dwell to between 8 and 10 beeps. That solved the problem and I generally get 1,500 or 1,600 shots out of my 88/4500 tank.

hope that helps some.

ps: all Imps are different so you really just have to fiddle with it to get it right, particulary when using an lpr.

Well results so far, yesteday took a few steps of the dwell, upped the pressure to about 150 psi, and subject to further testing I think I can now do about 2000 rounds off my 68/4.5K MARVELLOUS!!!!

Cheers for the help peeps!
