i think for alot of people, including me, its all about the funds and travelling, me personnely wouldn't be able to afford to play most tournies with big paint bills, plus the travelling fees etc, although i would love to be on a team, there are no teams near me to even try out for, so how can people like me progress onto teams if there are none, yesi could travel to a team for e.g dartford etc, but to train every weekend spending £100 on a day its just no feesible for some people, maybe thas a contributing factor of it!

All of your points are valid but I think its a sum of the whole.

The costs involved in Paintball are quite high i.e travel, hotels, paint & entry fees and don't forget 'beer money' and as 'Tricky-Dicky' pointed out progression and lack of trials for the 'bigger' teams.
Twizz pointed out that he did arrange trials & training weekends which were poorly supported but I think that this is directly related to the costs involved. Lets be honest, I'm sure that even on highly sponsored teams like Tigers, Shock & Nexus the players are expected to 'cough-up' towards costs & don't forget loss of earnings due to being away from work.
I think players are weighing up the pros & cons of both sides of our Sport, Tourney V Rec and going for the cheaper option and don't forget, most new players being attracted to Tourney Paintball are 'young-un's' who I suspect, in the majority of cases, don't have much cash to throw around.

Bit of a Vicious Circle really.

Give people an introduction to tourney ball and they often take to it. At least half of the players at the Uni Championship had newer played sup'air/tournament prior to the event or their preparation for the event. So I don't think the game its self is at fault.

I think its about promotion and credability - how we sell the game to new players. We don't have a standard rule book, we can't even tell people how may players per team. The league structurss domestically, at a european level, and a world level (i.e. the US leagues  ) are a farce.

It is hugely inconvienient to play, due to no walk on scene. Yes 'people should be committed' and 'players in the states drive 18 hours a weekend to play' but I expect there are thousands of US players who would sit on their arse if it wasn't for the local walk on 15 mins down the road. The convienece group is the bulk, and satisfing their lazyness allows you to have breeding ground for the committed players. Then you get your 18 hour road tripper adicts.. I mean committed types.

Anyway as mario said paintball is ****, I'd agree, but not about the game its self, just the way it is run.

Here are some possible reasons...

1. Too many people in this 'sport' think they are Gods and it becomes tiresome (big fish, small pond scenario) to endure.
2. Too little emphasis with the popular 5 & 7 man formats on atletisism (be fat but wiggle your finger fast and you can do all right in any UK tourney)
3. Too many nobs (I've met some absolute gentlemen in this 'sport' but unfortunately they have been greatly outnumbered by the idiots)
4. Too expensive, I can pretty much learn to fly for the same price per month paintball costs and being a pilot carries a little more kudos than 'standing behind balloons firing your water pistol'.
5. Too much time at an event. ALL day on a sunday for about 30 mins actual playing time at most UK tournies. Poor pay/play ratio unless you're playing x-ball.
6. Vanity. I'm convinced paintball is pretty much now 'dress up' for middle aged men. No one cares about results or playing ability, they just want to see pictures of themselves in their latest spandex contraption the moment they get home from an event.
