Plastic dyes are no use then. If you're looking to change the colour, remove the powder coating and replace it in a different colour.

yup i still have a couple......the stuff i have is called dylon
take a look at www.dylon.co.uk

i emailed them when i was playing with it asking them about dyeing plastics and they replied that yes it will dye plastic but they hadnt specifically tested it and couldnt offer any advise on how to do it.
if you look on pbnation there is a big thread in the goggles section (i think) about dyeing plastics that might help you.

generally, boil water, add dye, allow to cool slightly so that the boiling water doesnt melt the plastics.....suspend the item in the dye and leave it till it looks how you want it, keep the temp constant if you can using a cheap thermometer.
once you take the item out rince in stone cold water to close the pores in the plastic. if its not dark enough just put it back in.
dye can also be saved and resused.

good luck!

toms got a point there, rather than trying to dye the plastic coating dig out your local yellow pages and im sure you will find a powder coater in there....shouldnt cost more than a few quid and will give a far better finish

have a ring round of a couple of powder coaters.....look for ones that do motor bike parts etc they will happily do a single item for ya i would bet.....tell em what it is so they know the rough size, also tell em that it needs the existing coating removing (will cost more to prep it)
bet ya it wont cost much.....id guess at a tenner ish (but not sure as was ages since i got any coating done).
if you find a place local to yourself then take it down in person so you can pick out the exact colour you want...dont forget to take any part you want it matched to with ya
