Ken Livingstones proposed new laws?

Better Things 2 Do!
Ok doing some reading and came across this

http://www.london.gov.uk/mayor/guns_replica/index.jsp

In addition to a total ban on replica guns, the Mayor is also calling for a total ban on air weapons, stating that hundreds of incidents involving air weapons occur each year resulting in minor injuries or disfigurement.
Now will paintball markers fall into this category and if banned from London how long before it travels to different citys or will it just be replicas that look real?

Hopefully he won't be mayor again by then, as we'll all have come to our senses and voted in someone who actually gets off his arse and does something worthwhile for London, instead of just bleating on about the goddam tube...

He is responding to a cultural problem - namely the rise of gun related crime in the capital. The only reason the most recent murder made the news was because there was a 7yr old girl involved.

I would imagine that "air weapons" refers most specifically to air rifles and pistols, which cause more loss of sight and disfigurement than any marker.

Whether he is a pillock or not he has an obligation to react to the increase in murders/armed robbery etc. He cannot ban anything straight out - he would need the support of the Met and it would take sometime to put it through on the byelaws for London. Were it to be a national policy a Bill would need to be drfted by an MP and would take even longer.

A few well phrased e-mails (without ranting) could remind him that there are legitimate pastimes covered by strict safety regulations that could be affected by a blanket ban. Markers are not weapons but sport/activity equipment.
There is a difference...

There does need to be a crack down on guns in the capitol, my brother was sat in a restaurant over the weekend and when he came out his car was being impounded by the cops, so he asked why they told him there had been a shoot out and his car was hitt, unlucky or what.
now this was in southgate its hardly the bronx but things are going that way and something does need to be done,

in my personnal opinion that ban wont apply to paintball markers cos like the other dude said they are sports equipment, it would be like banning nail guns from builders

A friend of mine is going through his Police training at the moment and he brought up this topic with those in the know. and as far as the police are concerned Paintball guns are classed as Adventure sport equipment(or words there about) but i guess we'll have to just watch this space as it happens.
