How about this?:

Personally i think we should as a sport ditch the Pro, Am A , Am B , Nov and do what every other sport does and introduce a central league, with governing body, have Div 1 trhrough 5 say, with 20 teams per league from all over Europe/The World and then have them battle for promotion to be up with the big boys. You couls have the MS rankings form the basis for this league placement, i.e top 20 into Div 1, next 20 into Div 2 and so on. It would make the sport far more marketable and appealing to people that play as thy would be actively seeking to achieve a goal. That of either winning the division or not being relegated. Make a system where you are penalised for coming last and standards will improve fast

Well?:)

Sam, I think you'll find that it's not so much the structure that will hold us back but the format !

Are you refering to 7 man vs x-ball?

Col, structuring paintball into leagues in the way Sam suggests instead of the pro / am / novice divisions we have now is not gonna help us sell the sport to anyone.

We have to change the way the games are presented into easily digestible productions otherwise the games would be just too boring; what X-Ball has shown us, or should have done, is that if we tweak the format we can get people to take us seriously.

That seems like it could very easily happen, and although it would probably make paintball more popular, it would be nearly impossible to get a different more "legitimate" version on the air after a paintball game that is manipulated and taken away from it's true form.

Geteting back to teh point though, does anyone know a sport that is not bowing to the ratings gods? I know all Olympic sports are having to change their format to become "spectator friendly" (read TV friendly).

Unfortunately today, we are pretty much at the mercy of the television.

However much we want to argue about it, this is ENTIRELY true. Unfortunately, I don't have any well thought out plans on how to get paintball in to the mainstream (or should that be X-stream (pun intended)), but if this other format is accepted by the television-viewing public, there'll be next to no chance of going back.

Why not work on a format which is between both the NXL and S7?

Combining the two formats into a single format will benefit both sides who by personal choice will either go for the NXL or S7.

Hey guys/gals , although I'm just a lowly baller in Canada ( actually getting back in the game after a year or so off ) . Other then "tweeking" the rules , points , game time etc , I think that a "solid" body of Qualified Refs should be one of the main topics in any tournement organization. Whether it's a Non-sanctioned fun tournement or up to the top leagues such as NPPL, X-Ball , and of course The Millenium( notice I separated the Mill from NPPL!!) . After watching the video of Toulouse over and over and over , I said to myself and others , " Man , the Euro's have got it together , that's what a tournement is supposed to be like .
Honestly , maybe change the format somewhat , maybe a Refferee committee .
But nothing to serious " If it's not broken , don't fix it , maintenance prevents that".
When you think about , really "Who makes a tournement , a tournement ? The top 8 finishers ? or those that didn't make the cut ?
