Is tournament paintball heading in the right direction?

And how many times has the NPPL gone bust from not having enough teams play? 3 times now?
But that is a matter for those who manage the finances of the league - it isn't a fault of the format.
I would think that not having enough teams play IS a fault of the format? How can it be otherwise? Not enough teams opting to play 7 man = no revenue = league goes bust. Three times. Talk about flogging a dead horse?

Oh and for those wanting to play 7man, this video nicely describes it:
It's a lot of sitting in your bunker shooting your lane. Not really much else.
But doesn't X-Ball also involve laning?
Yes, but with less guns it is possible to move a lot more as you well know, having reffed both.

I would like to see something useful to come out of this thread.
Are my proposals about installing a decent club/tiered training infrastructure not useful then? Instead of farting about with formats, install a backbone and organisation for the players to grow and develop. Surely that is a fundamental of any organised sport?

Your proposals for a decent club are very useful - a concept for a paintball Academy was pitched to me some time ago, by someone hugely respected in the industry who has enough clout to make it happen. And I was fortunate enough to be asked to be involved in it.

I can't say any more about the Academy initiative at this point, but I would still like a response from everyone to two points I have raised in this thread, which apply to any format we play:-

1. Do you agree that field layouts should not be released before an event?
2. Do you agree that the UK paintball community should appoint a player rep to the MS?

Yes i think they should be only available once you get to a tournament! would certianly see some diff results and training methods needed!

Do you think the uk has enough clout to the rest of the MS to make that voice worthwhile? Do we make up enough of the MS in the form of teams to influence their decisions?

I believe that Robbo has a chat scheduled with Stephen Baldwin of the MS.

In any event, we have as much right to be represented as any of the participating countries in the MS.

For the record, the NPPL did not go bust 3 times.

Here is a history lesson for the people that keep saying this:

NPPL name was bought by Chuck Hendsch (NPPL was 10&5 man, but about to go X-ball)
Hendsch approached WDP/Angel for support/partnership.
WDP start Pure Promotions.
Pure Promotions create NPPL Super & Series.
Series runs for 4 years.
WDP sell Pure Promotions to Pacific Paintball.
Pacific Paintball runs the Super 7 Series for 1 season.
Pacific Paintball is Bankrupt (this is the first time someone running the NPPL, or the NPPL itself, is 'bust')
Team reps, plus Chuck Hendsch, buy the assets of pacific paintball at Auction, including the NPPL brand-name.
This group operate the league to this day (2nd season)

THAT is an accurate interpretation of the facts. The NPPL went bust once, not 3 times.

Jonathan, I know that Baca Loco refers to this being the 3rd incarnation of the NPPL, and I know you think of Paul as a godlike being, but facts are facts, and while this is the 3rd (4th actually) ownership of the NPPL, and therefore 3rd (4th actually) version thereof, it is untrue/inaccurate to say it went bust 3 times, twice, or any other number other than once (1).
This '3 times bust' fantasy is just something people repeat over and over, hoping it will one day become truth, or perhaps in some cases, simply ignorance of the facts

Anyway, this should help the argument for 7-man, or at least allow it to be more of a fact-based argument.

So does F1. And racing an Olympic class dinghy. And any other truly high-level sport (sorry, not so much football as that is more a marketing machine than sport to me these days). There is no "value for money" in the Americas Cup beyond the bragging rights of the winning team and manufacturer.
C'mon Pinky, you can do better than that. You are making it too easy to shoot your arguments down...

F1 does not bleed money. Neither does the boat thing. Sure, it may look like it does on the surface, but all the money poured into that is coming back in multiples through advertising.
This ain't happening in paintball.
And you say football is a marketing machine? Sure is, but F1 even more so man. In fact, they were one way before football became one.

I didn't realise the forum members (all) are here to gratify you're ego.

A very good and concise post, Missy. The only thing I would like to point out is that I have never stated that the NPPL went bust three times - I was just quoting Exile's post.
