Is paintball too expensive?

I have found it is dependant on how far you plan to go with it. If its once a month or afew times a year you can pick up pretty decent kit for afew hundred quid and have a whale of a time. If you want to go more often and compete then its like anything, you get what you pay for.

Most folks have hit on the crux of the matter. Is paintball expensive? It depends.

For one weekend a month, with some pretty basic kit, you'll have a blast for cheap.

Playing tournaments and practicing every single weekend, traveling all over the states, and having events every 3 weeks...cost me a TON. Like 20 grand USD over 20 months or so. That was with not a lot of sponsors.

When I had a full ride from Empire, all I spent was hotel/rental car/flights. That's still expensive but not that bad, as it meant free entry to NPPL events, free paint (OMG the feeling of walking up to a semi truck of paint and asking for 20 cases for free is awesome). All gear was below cost from a local store/damn near free.

You have to spent a lot of time, money, wear and tear on your body.

Well I am just getting back into paintball after About 7-8 years out and to be honest in the uk the cost hasn't changed in fact in some areS of the sport it's cheaper in my opinion anyway. Now you seem to get more bang for your buck than when I used to play.
On a side note I have never played tournament so I can't comment on that area

Yeah I am somewhat jealous of the fact you got sponsored haha! UK its slightly less expensive with travelling in comparison to the states. Playing as much as you did/do is expensive but it looked more to be a job than what I do which is once a month reccy time.

ive played for a few year and now my step son getting into it..yeah I can pass down old kit but.... your looking £120 plus for the both of us to play sometimes

More likely - unable to afford paintball, not paintball being expensive

This is a game that uses a consumable. That consumable is at a good price but people may use a lot of it

If you play punter paintball then it is more expensive, this is what pays the sites rent, business overheads and wages

If you play more then once then play walkons or events. You then pay a reasonable price for paint

Shoot as much as you can afford to
If you don't have the disposable income then that does not make paintball too expensive

You can play without all the shiniest newest kit

I need setup for 3 so start up costs I see might be quite considerable. But for now the club we have joined gives access to their equipment.

Yes it is for punters (it's all about value for people who may play once maybe twice a year) Having seen a site advertise a box of 2000 for £150 (average seems to be around the £100 mark) then that must put punters off.




No it isn't for walk on's and teams as long as you shop around and try to sort deals out.

For people who go once or twice a year it can be a very expensive game depending on how trigger happy they are, and how expensive the site is.. places i play is £30 for 500 paintballs, i don't know if thats cheap compared to to other sites or not.. but to me that seems expensive!

@smudgerebt you say it isn't expensive for walk on's? do they get to take they're own paint?
