Is paintball a sport

Its very hard to convince someone that paintball (which in most peoples mind is a bunch of people hunting each other in camo) is a sport, its all about breaking normal peoples perceived image of it.

This thread is basically meaningless guys, you can of course refer to the OED and get a catch-all classification that would have us all believe any participation that involved physical exertion and competition is a sport, this is obviously absurd in the practical sense but I suppose those dictionary guys have to start somewhere.

If we look toward how the official bodies view paintball, then this is a more realistic approach to whether paintball can be regarded as a sport and I'm afraid we fall short on various points and until those points have been addressed we ain't no sport guys.

...but then again burnzy must be right coz he tells us his tutors are all wrong ...

Well I class it as a sport. Why else would there by the UK Paintball Sport Federation? Based on that, why would they bill it as a sport, if it were not!

I think you may have missed something CJ, just calling yourself a sport isn't the same as being regarded as one mate...

as far as i was aware to be a sport, you had to be sanctioned by the sports council and as such must have a governing body and members.
they must have a set rule book and standardisation (eg. field size)
but they can apply for grants to improve and further the sport, they can also apply to hold demonstration/exhibition matches/events at big events like the Olympics to try and gain acceptance from said event.

I think with the formation of the NWO and our own UK body and the joining of the Millennium and the PSP we are coming closer to those requirements, but there is still some way to go
