Firstly i would like to say well done on the good set up, fields and venue as well as having alot of good marshals. but i did feel one aspect of the tournament suxed big time.

Ok as you would know if u have played heavens gate it was a self seeding tournament with the divs playing off for a ultimate winner.

That i have no problem with, the only problem i have is the fact that the winners of div1 play off against the runners up of div1 and the same with div 2 and 3. So my question is what is the point of making div1 in the first place. None except you have a harder set of play offs and all this seems to do is promote sandbagging. Would it not have been a better idea for div1s winners to play div4s runners up rewarding the div1 team for winning instead of rewarding the div4 team for not doing so well on the first day. All this seems to suggest to me is if you want to make the finals don’t bother turning up till Sunday and play in div4, which is what we may do next year.

Exactly. When the 2nd day divisions were based on scores from the first day, surely the play-off between the div A winners and runners-up is a more realisitic indicator of who deserves 1st and 2nd places overall?

So who was sand bagging ????????
I played for ZONE at this one and may be it was not the best way to do the overall bit at the end but that had no effect on who one what div..

You are missing the point.

I am not saying any team did try to sandbag i am saying that doing so would greatly improve a teams chances of reaching the final and no particular team has been mentioned so i dont know what psychos comment has to do with anything.

I may not have worded this practically well but my point is this. By only having one first place over all four divs and garneting a team from either div 3 or 4 in the final there was no advantage of winning games on the first day

I think I see glackos point, in that if a team played badly all Saturday they would be seeded in a lower division on Sunday, making it easier to get into the divisional trophies and also easier to get into the playoffs for the overall winners trophy.
I wasn't there on Saturday so I couldn't see if anyone was trying that, but talking to teams I know well on the Sunday made it very clear to me that very few, if any, teams played with that attitude. Teams that hadn't done well on Saturday were clearly very disappointed with their performances, some showing embarassment at which division they had ended up in. And some lower ranked teams who played well on Saturday were ecstatic about ending up in a hard division for Sunday - with one team in particular just about every single player came up to me to say how proud they were that they had managed 5th in Division 1. Also, looking at the Sunday divisions I saw very few surprises regarding who was playing where, few enough for it to be the usual blips that teams have at the odd tournament.

I'm rather disappointed that the only thread about Heaven's Gate in the tournament forum is somewhat negative. This was a very good event at a lovely venue - decent fields, good reffing, well organised, great facilities - and of course the weather gods smiled on us (seriously sun-burned arms!). There were just a couple of small niggles (not enough bins, netting needs to be higher), but Sid knows about these and plans are already in hand to make the necessary improvements next year and you can't ask for more than that. I thought last year was very good, and this year was an improvement, and I can see this becoming a must-play tournament in the future.:)

There are plenty of positive threads on 'Gate, but I moved most of them to AC&Q, because that's where the congratulatory threads should be. This part of the forum is for discussing tournaments (as is happening in this thread). If someone comes up with a positive point of this event that can spark of a good discussion, it's more than welcome here.

Hope that explains.

lindsey u are right the best team did win.

shockwave without a doubt were the best team there. however the 2nd and 3rd teams were no way the 2nd or 3rd best teams there. thats why we feel cheated:(

but i really enjoyed myself so im not gonna moan that much but would of been nice to see the shock boys in the final game
