Top teams have a choice of gun to use. They don't have to chose a cr@p one. Avalanche in PGI said they settled on the Timmy as thats what they knew worked and worked well.
Gun choice has a lot to do with function. Thats why Dynasty didn't go with the Tippman offer

Yeah, sure, the pro's know there guns. They also know that they will have support, spare guns, techs on tap etc. etc.
In an ideal world I would love to believe that the guns people choose to shoot in the upper bracket of our sport is based purely on their technical merits.

That would restore some of my faith in Human nature! However are we really saying that the whole package is decided on the basis of how good the gun is????

Small economics test. Which "Gun" does our un-named hypothetical pro-team choose

1/ Gun "A" is great, but made by a small manufacturer who can only supply the team with guns and a tech.

2/ Gun "B" is also pretty good, sold through a massive chain that produces all manner of kit, distributes paint, will pickup your tourney fee and input cash into your travel.

So obvioulsy our top ranking team will pick option 1, the best, most reliable and easily maintained gun????? please....

If i'm wrong, or just twisted and cynical then fine. Please prove me so, and prove that our sport has not succomed to commercialism, and everybody makes there decisions in an informed manner without the influnence of money or politics.

P.S. Do you honestly believe that Avalanche would say anything else about their sponsors gun? ;) :D

IanC To be honest if you are the sort of person that will buy a gun based on which sponsored teams use it, then you are also the sort of person who will buy whatever gear is advertised by the fittest girls (sorry, people!!!! Must not descriminate!! )
I think you are missing the point

People will often buy depending on what their favourite teams shoot. They will also buy a gun on the basis of 'if it's good enough for them it'll be good enough for me'.

So that will explain why manufacturers sponsor the top teams.

Interesting to note that many people think that the timmy will do well this year. they've got the teams and the pure saturation will ensure them the sucess.

Are they wasting their money by striking all these deals with all these top teams? I doubt it - it will bring in bigger sales, and this is starting to show itself in the Uk with the numbers of Timmys that are around now - a year ago they were rocking horse doo.

To sign off - last year the best teams in the world were, in my opinion (in no particular order);

All Americans Impulse
Oakland Assassins Intimidator
Russian Legion Angel
Dynasty Angel
Naughty Dogs E-Blade Autococker
Strange Impulse

A spread across the board in markers and thats no coincidence

Ok, maybe I didn't write it very well, I'm not trying to say that its a waste, but was just trying to point out that the guns shot by the worlds best teams is not the be all and end all of who will buy which gun.

Granted people do buy on the grounds of if its good enough for the pro's etc. I'm not disputing that, what I am saying is that many other people will not buy guns on this basis. Many of the people I know that have bought new guns, have done so having seen them being shot at a local level. Tried them out, asked people that have them what experiences they've had etc.

This is just my experience, but what else is there to go on? Wouldn't be a very interesting discussion forum if we all thought the same! ;) :)

Better do some work now

In marketing its called product placement. You see it in every other sport there is. Nike know that Tiger Woods will perform well regardless of what he wears and so does his audience. The fact that he wears Nike all the time means that the Nike brand is associated with a top golfer. Nike stuff may be complete crap but its hard to lable it as such when it is worn by one of the best golfers in the world.
Same with pball, it's allot harder to say the shocker is crap when Dynasty are using them to batter teams around the field. Dynasty using the shocker to win adds value to it straight away. WHY on earth WDP gave them up I dunno (well I do but don't agree with it).:)

p.s angels are better buy angels:)

Why?

Because the cannot afford it anymore!!!!
Plus Pure Promotions is a huge cashdrain too! As much I love those guys they are STILL and ALWAYS were a family company noone should forget that!

On top of that Bobby and the Matrix folks also did a lot to convert people from WDP not to mention the Gardeners.

Still I hope with the FLY they will be able to recapture the lost sheep!

Slazenger sponsors your Timmy Henman. Wilson sponsored Sampras. Tennis sponsorship is a bit strange though. The top players are using old racquets they are well adjusted to, Sampras for example was using racquets made at a specific factory some awful time ago. The racquets they are seen using are simply paintjobs, the manufacturer making them look like a currently selling racquet, though they do usually stay with their manufacturer. Though Safin was playing with a Head racquet painted black while he was sponsored by Dunlop, and I think Head might have sued. It's pretty ridiculous though, often a pro's real racquet won't even have as many strings or even be the same size as the racquet they are advertised as using.

But no, Dynasty is not too good for their own good, they have one of the best sponsorship packages around.
