It's not what you're thinking you friggin pervert. :)

What the deal with the these long ass barrels I see at my local fields? Is it a rec-ball thing, or are any tourney players using 16"+ barrels? I thought the 18" Boomstick was crazy, but the other day I saw some guy with a 21" Taso barrel! WTF! I looked at him and asked if he chose the barrel to compensate for his ........other shortcomings. He just looked at me with a blank stare on his face until my buddy walked by and told him "He's saying you have a small dick."
Barrel - $60
Paint - $80
Embarrassing some guy at the field - Priceless

Hey Inferno,

hmm,
well as for range it doesnt to anything, all guns go the same distance if they r set at the same velocity. But it does make a bit of a difference in the accuracy.Hey Inferno,
:) ;) :D :p
hheheh love those smilies !

Hey Matt,
sorry to disagree but I think you got it ass about face, if you set the gun at say 300 fps, putting different length barrels on the gun will cause the velocity to vary for obvious reasons (the fixed amount of energy that is pre-set will have to push the ball further thru a longer barrel and therefore the velocity as it leaves the end of the barrel will decrease as against a shorter one)

But in fact, accuracy will not be affected as you suggest, sorry mate, argue these points and you argue with Isaac Newton and that ain't a good idea mate :)
Regards
Robbo
PS This data is only relevant for barrels over about 5 or 6 inches.

Newton and all that stuff !!!!

Inserts are academic, it's the fact that the initial acceleration of the ball is imparted over the distance mentioned (I have heard that this acceleration phase is limited to the first few inches of the barrel length), anything after that, the ball begins to decelerate due to the friction of the barrel and therefore the added length just gives the ball more time to feel the negative effects of friction thereby slowing it down.
The longer the barrel, the more friction the ball will undergo.
Simple physics ain't it? :)

Either that or the force applied by friction does not have a chance to sufficiently slow the ball until after 5 or 6 inches
Inferno, friction will always tend to inhibit any moving object whether it be in the acceleration phase where in effect it will just decrease the rate of acceleration (proportional to the degree of friction) or in actively slowing the ball down after the acceleration phase has been completed.
Either way, friction is always going to be there acting against the velocity of the paintball.
