Guys i have 2 admit that attacking from the top is far easier than the bottom. firstly the breakout from the bottom means that you have to run 20 odd meters be for being able to shoot at a team. where as a break from the top you can spread players right across the field and massacre the other team be for they have even fired. if you watch this being played on punter days the team starting from the top always win simply because they get people in the furn's before the team at the bottom have even reached the log barricade. the team then crawls through the ditch and cuts the other team down.

however i personally believe speedball to have been the game of the day !!! It was fast and fun. fair enough it may not be woodland game but it was an excellent game . and i would have loved to have played more teams on it.

but the last game off the day against manc lions was possibly the best. the arena is playable from both ends . it was unfortunate the day ended they way it did but all credit to the manc lions they gave us a good game. and the guy who crawled under that log at the end took one for the team it was a brilliant move.

Hope we see more teams at the next event

Moppy every game I have seen won on the Guantlet has been from the bottom. Control the corner for crossfire and send player into moss barricade and advance along the ledge.

Yes top you can break easier and get in postions, but you can'tjust sit there for a 10 minute game. So if you have bottom and corner you can see them trying to move.

Guess this is what is so different about woodsball somany different angles to view a game from !

its debatable i think it depends if the top team get in the barricade on the far right of the field and manages to keep a player in there as that barricade basically controls the field..

"Final Game"

Reading through the threads I just thought I should say that the guy doing the crawling in the sludge filled trench in the "final" was me. The way the game ended soured the whole day for me as due to the field being flooded with every marshal on site an error was then made by them. During the game I saw at one point, two players inside the opposition base hut and then spent longer than I needed crawling up behind the hut (the full way up the field and half the width of it!) in order to go in and clear them out. It turns out the players I saw were dead players who had been sent in the hut by the extra marshalls who came in from a different field thinking it was the dead zone? I went in the hut and found it empty as the two players had been susequently removed whilst I had my head in the swamp like liquid. I then went to the window and shot the player in front of the hut, grabbed the flag and sprinted the full length of the field under fire from the one remaining live player to hang the flag. I was really angry when the game was basically declared a draw ie one live player left on each side and no flag grab/hang as I was not supposed to have gone in the hut, so was declared eliminated despite me coming up cold behind the player that I did shoot before hanging their flag. At the start of the day I asked personally on field could we go in the hut as at the last round we had to start inside the hut. I was told "you have to start outside but you can use the hut" well I dont know what "use" means in Newcastle but in Manchester it means I can go in it ! Anyone who knows me knows going in to that game I studied the scoreboard and knew exactly how many eliminations we needed to win the tourament and I would never have gone inside the hut had I known that it was out of bounds, there was a lot of money up for grabs and I would have been an idiot to risk losing it. By putting new marshalls on the field for the game the judges created a situation by which I thought live players were in that hut and that it was definately a live building. I spent a long time getting directly behind the entrance to the hut, lying in a foetid drain up to my armpits in mossies. The crowd appeared to appreciate the game though and by the thread so did the opposition who were very understanding at the end of the game as the result also ended up costing them prize money as I think they ended up third. With regard to the fields I maintain my previous stand point that I feel that quality is more important than quantity. I also feel that we are playing a specific woodland event so dump the speedball field. I personally dont care what end of what field we get as we usually give the opposition the choice of end anyway. Our team is full of old woodland pros and for me it think its fairer to some of the newer less experienced teams to at least have the opportunity to break out and some of the fields used didnt allow that. Congratulations to the organiser for doing the tournament and Im looking forward to the end of Steve Bulls Genisis events in the woods later this year. Some of us went and played Steve Bulls new "laser quest" this week which is laser quest in the woods. It was fantastic and way cheaper than paintball, I prefer the sound of paintballs impacting around my head but for training in the woods you wont get a better method, teams should get in touch with Steve Bull (UKPSF) and try and book some training with him!!!!!!!

**** happens Manc Lions won no differnce on placings for either team. Marshal who sent players was actually most experienced on that field (not games wise, fieldwise) It was a stupid error that was made by him. Also the captains meeting the rules were explained. But sadly mistakes happened and it will be clear next time for everyone.

As said earlier no changes in placings happened, Teabags had to kill the lions and get flag back to make a rank difference. They weren't going to do it in the end.

All events little mistakes are made the important thing is they are learnt from and corrected ! Which they will be from both staff and players.

These little pointers do not takeaway the fact it was a cracking day !

Oh and as for speedball field I know on that field some people loved it,some weren't as keen. As proven on the last round where people choose their field. Two teams choose speedball. Wood fields will always have some thing different it is what makes them fun.

Marshy when watching your move, you played it well mate.
