Number Of Fields

I have played both of the Ion series tournies so far I have thoroughly enjoyed them.A couple of points I would like to make are, I have been more tired from trekking to and from some of the fields than from actually playing on them. I think field six (?) on the day (the one down the goat track past all the other fields) was very biased to the top end and I felt sorry for teams breaking out from the bottom, we (Manchester Lions) played a young team on there and they never got out of their base camp. The speedball field is also a bit tight on space. We are playing a woodland tourney to get a break from concept type fields. We played a newbie team on that field and they never had a chance, it cant have been much fun for them and they really had nowhere to hide. Please dont over complicate the event with lots of fields, stick to the bigger more equally ballanced fields and speed up the game turn around times, this would make the event much more enjoyable. There was enough confusion at this last event due to field numbers getting mixed up, and we ONLY used 6. This is a really pleasant event to play at so please keep it simple. We all realise the site owner has not only put a lot of effort in to this series but also a hell of a lot of money in prizes. He really has put his money where his mouth is and has honoured all the prizes he said he would give out despite being let down on both occasions by teams who were supposed to be playing. Please support the event or the only woodland series left in the north of England will be gone before it even gets going.

You'd be suprised but it is actually easier to win from the bottom on that field.

anyway, everyone should get along to this. It is a great Tourney with a great atmosphere and even better prizes.

easy or hard ?

I guess it always depends on who you play on each field as to how easy or hard it is but there didn`t look like a lot to go for when I played it. I would go as far as to say if you got the bottom end against us you were screwed. With the fields, the point I was making was that quality is more important than the quantity of them. Advertising as playing 8 fields did not instill me with confidence. Of the fields I have seen and played there are three good fields and one thats passable (I call it the stick field cos its full of stick sized trees) and they would appear to be adequate for the number of teams and games being played. The speedball field and the bottom one to me were not up to much in my opinion. I played them all and won all day so my opinion is based on how easy or hard it was for us to beat teams on those fields. Like I said, the event is really enjoyable but could just do with faster turn around in between games and starting before 11 am when you have got out of bed at 5am to get there for 8am would be appreciated, especially when you have a 2 hour plus drive home at the end.

The far field that Marshy is referring to is far better from the top end - if you are a woodland team - because I guess we could see things others did not appreciate, I did have a plan for the other end though. :)

I like the old type woodland fields myself but a lot of players liked the concept field (5 I think) and I hated that one because it required very little ability just fire power and a tiny bit of gun skills.

The tournament has many plus points and only a few minor ones that get worked on as soon as the organiser becomes aware of them.
Many teams should consider a day in the woods, yes I know we tried for years to get out of there but it does not mean it can not be fun.
How many events do you know where if you win you end up in profit on the day, and second place gives you a very small bill for your day.

Find you old gear and come and try your hand, win or lose you will have a great day.

Russ.

PS: You will lose:)

Personally, I enjoyed our games on Field 1 the most (the one we played Manc lions on)...that is my favourite field and can be one from either end with the right tactics.

there will no doubt be a new field finished for the next event whih hopefully will be the one right next to the safe zone.

Also, i heard a rumour that chris has plans to get round the 'walking far' problem. ;)

Yeah to be honest the start times were delayed this time waiting for the teams that had promised to come not arriving. This will be taken care of next event with deposits being taken in advance and lost if you don't show.

I guess on all fields some people like some people hate. The one we call speed ball people choose that for their last game as they enjoyed it the most. Some choose the one right at the bottom which you said had the advantage from the top.

But i'd guess no matter which field format you played someone would like some and would dislike others and each person's view on why would be different. Thats what makes the event different and hopefully we can keep adding and changing fields so it gives you a different game each time.

All views are welcome and any constructive points raised will be listen too and worked on. As Tin Fish said hopefully the walking problem to bottom games will be sorted out by next time.
