i have an ion and have spent a bloody fortune on it, where as a tippmann is relatively cheap to get up and going. an air tank for an ion will be about 50 quid, where as you can get get a co2 bottle for about 20 off here.

however, if you were after entering tourneys a 98 wont get you anywhere because you will probably not be able to get co2, and the rof delivered by other people will kill you.

if were playing woodsball or scenario ball then you should probably go with the 98, but if you were playing sup air you want an ion or better...

do u play at a local site or completely new to paintball??

if u have a local site u primarily play at then perhaps u should find out if they use air or co2 as a propellent or it could also depend if your wanting to play recball (woods stuff) or sup'air (tournament).

some sites dont allow electronic markers (ion) because of the rof u can get over ordinary site markers. if ur local site only uses/supplies co2 then get a tippmann but if your local site is ok with electronic markers with customer days (or if they do walkons - bring yer own kit and play on their site) and they can supply air then get an ion.

BUT there is alot more which can go wrong with an ion over a tippmann so you'd have to read up on ion repair/problem solving or find someone who could sort the problems for u.

im sure people will have more to add to this but i hope this kinda helps.
I've played paintball 3 or 4 times and love it. I want one for recball.
So I'm thinking of the Ion. I like all the upgradability to keep me interested in the same thing and not keep thinking I need to buy a new one.

if you are going to be playing recball you will probably be better with a tippy, because as far as i know, most rec sites run on co2, and ions (well all electronic markers) dont really like co2, the cold doesnt do the boards any good.
