ion iwth reccommended upgrades would cost more then a pmr if you bought both new! PMR is much better built quality, upgrades for an ion new would be...

correct me if im wrong!

ion - £150
q-lock - £20
oops - £20
firebolt - £30
QEV - £15
**There's your PMR already**
Board - £60/70 + depending
Barrell - £20+ depending
Trigger - £20
Detents+Eyes - £15/20
**Then if you want to customnise it a bit, such as body kits etc, this will cost you even more**
Sledgehammer - £20
Smashing ion in anger when you decide you don't like it - PRICELESS:rolleyes:

Although I would go for a PMR over an Ion, I disagree with some of this. Neither marker has an OOPS to begin with, so that would be an optional upgrade for both markers. Both markers have similiar bolts, so upgrading an Ion with a Firebolt would put that side of it way above a PMR. Neither stock barrel is really that good, nor is the trigger. So to review:

Ion: £150
Q-Lock: £20
QEV: £15
Board: £50

That would put it at cheaper than a PMR, assuming of course you bought everything brand new. Ideally the thread starter should head down to his local field and try both out before making a decision.

so would most of you say the PMR is worth the £100 more?
It depends on what you like.

If you buy an Ion, are you likely to upgrade it?

If so, how much would the upgrades cost, and would the PMR need the same upgrades?

Do you definitely want a new gun? If not, go second hand, you could pick up a PM5 for under £200 easily and probably a PM6 for the same price as the PMR.

How much does customer service matter to you? Dye and Heaven Paintball have sorted out several issues with my second hand PM5, I really doubt that Smart Parts would have done the same.

Ion Noob
Hi im a newb to paintball and was thinking of getting either of these two to play sup'air and tournaments. But because im only 15 i cant afford really expensive markers. So can people give their views on these 2 markers.
We have just recently taken on some younger teens. What we did was to let them use our spare guns and advised them to spend there money on paint and other equipment such as goggles and loaders. Perhaps you could take this approach?

PMR over ION

I have both a n Ion and PMR i love em both .However if you go for the ion you will upgrade, you will most likely have :
on/off, Q lock, upgrade board eg virtue or blackheart, body kit if you want it to look pimp, fire bolt, QEV, easy on/off button,Trigger. Those are the most common upgrades and to be fair out of the box the Ion needs all those upgrades. you be lookin about the £200 + mark for all those upgrades howerver you can just get those upgrdes as and when you can afford.

the PMR to fair rocks out of the box the only upgrades i can see that it really needs it possibly a bolt that doesnt use so much air but that would only really be if you were playin long games eg woodland on supair field it rocks in fact its forced me to now keep my ION , shocker and cocker E1 as spare guns.
The trigger i think is fine nothin wrong with it at all.
The ultralite frame is optional really depends what you want ,i however will be gettin on but hey its another one of those things you can buy when you an afford it as the PMR in truth needs no upgrade out of the box.
So work it out the ION will do 17 bps out the box the PMR will do 20 bps out the box.
The ION is £130 ish and the PMR is £250
However i think its worth spendin that extra £150 on the pmr and savin the hassle of all the upgrading you need to do on the ion.

On the other hand by the time you have upgraded your ion chances are you have your own custom ion that no one else has.

Bottom line it comes down to how much time and money you really want to spend on your new gun.

Hope that made sense and was of some help .

Well i am looking to play in the Proto KoTH and you can borrow PMR's from them but you get priority if you are playing in the rookie league over the novice league. But i will ask if anyone would let me play for them and use their spare gun if they have one.
