Wow - the big man is back :D

Missed you!

I agree teams are irresponsible to a great degree - and obviously, if the promoter is to be held accountable for a certain prize amount, it has to work the other way also - teams are to enter in a timely fashion, and to be accountable for entry fees, whether they turn up or not.

If you want to start running tournaments, and you want to be successful long term, you have to be willing to lose money initially. It's the only way you're going to beat the established promoters.

So you have to run a top-notch event, even if only 10 teams show up, and pay out top-notch prizes, even if only 10 teams show up. If you do that, it won't be but a couple of events before you are running the league that everyone is playing. (Of course, I would never do this, as even after I was running the league everyone was playing, it wouldn't be worth the money.)

But, I don't think promoters 'owe' the players anything, and I think any player who even bothers to consider the prizes they might win against the amount of money they spend to play is an idiot. The answer is the same: You're going to lose money playing paintball tournaments. Period. It's like gambling in Vegas. You might have a good day here or there, but you're going to lose in the long run, and believing otherwise is sheer stupidity.

All of this, however, ignores the real problem:

Promoters shouldn't offer prizes at all.
