Info on air systems and hoppers for a pmr

Hi, been playing using hire gear for the past couple of years at a few paintball sites around bristol, so me and a buddy of mine decided it was time
for us to get our own gear and play along proper players instead of first timers all the time, that way i should get better a lot quicker.

Iv only ever played woodsball, but once i get into it id like to try speedball too.

I have a total budget of around £450 - £500 for the marker, hopper and air system. (marker £250, air £150?, hopper £50-£100?). Of course cheaper the better if possible, as ill have to buy goggles, spares, a pack, pots etc on top of that budget.
After much searching on the net and looking for information on this board and a few others iv decided on a proto matrix rail.

The air systems confuse me, iv read about pre set regs, and then others talking about using high and low pressure. Can anyone break it down for me why you would use either of these over pre set?

When it comes to filling your compressed air bottle, do you need to buy yourself a larger bottle like a diving bottle and refill it yourself? or do the paintball walk in days let you use theirs?

Was going to buy a 1.1L kevlar coated tank, any recomendations on which one? would a 0.8L one suffice?

Sorry i know this is long winded, one last question, and that is regarding hoppers. Iv read the halo B with rip drive is a pain the arse to clean if a ball breaks inside mid game. Id prefer to have something that i can rely on. Is it best to stick to looking at reloader B's and halo B's? Will either of these suit a pmr? Or do you suggest an alternative loader.

Cheers dudes, once i get my gear, maybe ill see you all at some walk ins around bristol/somerset.

PMR Good choice on a starter gun =]

Most sites have now converted to compressed air rather then CO2 [as it is sooo much easier] so will have the compressed air fill stations that you will be able to use,
they are also at main events so you should only need to get the airbottle.

There is a sticky in the tech room but anyway

Air systems come in 2 types preset or adjustable. This is in regards to the pressure that leaves the reg and enters the markers first stage reg.

Adjustable obviously have an infinitely variable output pressure from 0-1000psi depending on manufacturer.

Presets have a fixed output and are non adjustable. Low pressure presets have an output of about 450psi whereas high pressure presets have and output of around 850psi again all depends on maker.

I have run my rail on hp preset without any problems so would say get either a 1.1 stako or a pmi 1.1 (68) sloth sell them for about £140 but stakos are a bit harder to get hold of

you could probably save some money on the hopper and get an egg (evlution II or III) for about £30? or so off the forums...i believe they had some trouble with the battery doors but there's a mod to fix this so you could probably get one with it already done...i'm sure someone will know more anyway

1.1L tanks are the norm really, especially if you want something suitable for woodsball and speedball as if you get into the big games a 0.8L tank might not hold enough air for one outing...

goggles are also something that you don't want to skimp on...I use Proflex's but anything in that area (eg. I3's/Events/etc) are good so if people will let you try a few sets on at a game or something see what's a good fit...

Appreciate the reply's, just noticed the sticky in the tech part of the forum, i hadn't been in that section yet so never noticed it.

Thanks for the information, found a 1.1L stako, but it was around £170 so think ill plump for a pmi for £140.

Hopper not sure, i kind of like to buy once and not have to worry about needing a new one, maybe i should look for a second hand reloader/halo? Iv found a halo B with rip for £85 new

goggles i was going to go with a set of I3 pro's
