Here's some information I found on smart parts new Nerve. Everything is based on their patent application, which can be found here.
- It will be able to measure the pressure in the gas storage chamber.
- It will be able to measure the velocity.
- Based on these two measurements it will then adjust the dwell time and/or chamber pressure to make the marker shoot the desired speed.
Quote from the patent:
"Alternatively, paintball gun characteristics related to other operational parameters of the paintball gun could be dynamically measured and controlled to improve paintball gun operation. Among other things, firing rate could be optimized based on a firing history of the paintball gun and a dynamically determined present firing rate. Temperature sensors could be used to measure a current temperature and dynamically adjust gun parameters based thereon. A loading sensor could be used to identify loading problems and dynamically adjust solenoid valve dwell settings where necessary to ensure a sufficient load time. Still other uses for the dynamic feedback loop of this invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art."

Seems like a pretty sophisticated marker, eh? :)

Oh, and the patent for the shocker ´03 can be found here.
Kind of intresting to hear "... to provide a paintball gun that is smaller and lighter than conventional markers" being said about a shocker =)

Hmm auto-chrono marker, I can see problems arrising unless you use perfectly same sized paint.

EG, you get a slightly hot shot for whatever reason - spike in gas pressure, wierd magnetic field behind your particular wingnut/whatever.

That shot also happens to have a slightly larger bore paintball, so goes a fari bit hot.

Marker adjusts to compensate for velocity, and a small paintball drops in, comes out of the barrel at 250 fps.

I'm guessing they'll have figured this out - as I remember hearing about this system being put into the shocker a couple of years back, but that obviously never happened.

"... to provide a paintball gun that is smaller and lighter than conventional markers"
And when I read that I thought "Uh-oh, that means Sp are gonna have the patent on small markers, so other manufacturers are gonna have to start making every new model bigger and heavier! :D

But of course they will have thought about this and will make sure the adjustments are small enought to avoid this problem. You don't think that Smart Parts will ship a product that doesnt work 100%, do you!? ;)
