you can do a micro-switch mod to both but I found out by accident that the Maplin switch is easier to do the mod to because the internal part of the switch is a 1 piece design, the 1 sp use is 2 piece & very fiddlely to get back together.
If you want a lighter trigger I would get the switch from maplins & mod it (make it lighter than the stock 1) prior to taking the stock 1 off the board that way if you mess it up its only cost you 80p,or get 2 thats what i did now i have a spare :)

Maybe whatever screw is meant to push on the switch isnt set right? Or...might be that cos you found part of the switch, there isn't enough of the lever left for the trigger to engage with, so your trigger is moving up fine but there's nothing there for it to push on.

if its a flat silver piece it sits in the micro-switch have a look here to see if its the bit you mean http://www.shockerowners.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=496

The pic number 2 show what the micro-switch should look like(its the board of an 03 shocker but the switches are the same)
if the silver lever on the top is missing the switch won't activate as the trigger hits that part not the grey button. Also if that part is not on unless you have damaged switch it should go back on you need to squeeze the end with the slot in it & hook the corners with the little tags on them into the holes in the end of the switch(the end closest to the egde of the board/front if i remember correctly)
Hope this helps if not my offer still stands
