but wouldn't having 6 blades mean it was 50% heavier and thus 50% slower?

Don't forget that the Impeller with 6 blades has got shorter blades, so recalculate!

And there is a finite limit to how fast you should spin the impellar because if the balls are agitated too much they won't feed properly down the feed tube because their momentum carries them over the neck of the tube and...
