To increase the velocity on the VL put a 1/8" allen key into the socket at the rear of the marker, turn clockwise to increase velocity.

If you are playing at a site do the adjustment at the chrono station and make sure you remain at a resonable FPS.
(Legaly must be below 300FPS, but most sites will allow 280FPS max)
As you have CO2 then it may be wise to go lower to allow for spiking.

If you play on private ground or will do adjustments at home than a chronograph is highly recommended. The yellow type of handheld is decent, but you need to press the button for every shot. The grey one gives the FPS for each shot while you hold the button down, and has BPS as well.

Welcome, Matt. Just keep your head up and don't be too cocky that you can't listen to the elder players. You can learn a lot about the ins and outs of paint ball from the dudes that are out there every weekend.
