Hey, im a newbie and just the other day i bought my first gun(Spyder Aggressor) well the 1st problem I have is with the Verticle feeder, i can aim at all so if anyone has a suggestion on how to aim could you tell me please cuz i really wanna snipe some people out, but i can use my sight rail. And my other question is about the velocity, First off, to make sure i know where it is, i think it is in the back and you can turn it. If this is the velocity how do you adjust it? I was reading something on sniping and it said to set it to something like 270-285, I have no idea what that means or how to set it to that. Any help would be appriciated, thanks for your time.

Well the best thing you can do is get down to your local site and get the gun chronographed to 270-285 feet per second (fps).
As for the aiming thing I guess you could always look along the side of the barrel or you could purchase an Armson dot site to go on your site rail.
Hope this helps.

First, for political correctness, we use the term "marker" not gun. It's a piece of equipment used to mark opponent players, eliminating them. We try and maintain the image of paintball as a sport. The term gun sends the wrong message.

Second, you have a couple of choices in aiming with your verticle feed: learn to aim without looking down the barrel. It can be done, with practice. You'll learn where your shots are likely to fly.
Alternatively, you can side-mount a scope . See this website for how to do this: http://www.paintballzone.com/sniper_scope_sidemount.htm
This seems diffucult , expensive and time consuming. Alternatively. there are red-dot sights which can be mounted on a vert-feed marker and still allow you to aim down the barrel: http://www.dyeprecision.com/ <<<see the izon sight

Third, your velocity adjuster should be a hex-screw or thumb screw at the rear of the marker. You can turn it to adjust your velocity. You need a chronograph to check the velocity of the paintballs. These can be found at most fields and you will have to check your velocity before most games. Get the chrono marshall to help with this if you are unsure. 280fps( feet per second) is the usual velocity allowed on most fields.

You should get as many paintball magazines as possible, all of them (especially PGI and APG ) have sections dedicated to newbies. Go to your local fields and talk to staff and other players. They will be happy to help. There are also lots of websites with information to help

velocity

on most spyders the velocity is a chrome knob on the back just under the bolt.
numbers like 275 and 280 are feet per second. at all paintball fields there are chronographs that tell you those numbers and you simply turn the knob clockwise to increase c-clockwise to decrease

if you have any more questions e-mail me at: briallwood@hotmail.com

talk to ya lata

Jason, I can say the "g" word, I just don't want to :p
Seriously though, we have more than enough problems promoting paintball in the UK, we don't ever want markers to fall into the same categories as airguns or real guns. We don't have the same culture of acceptance of the rights of an individual to own weapons. The majority of our police are only armed with pepper spray and telescoping batons. I've said this before, I don't want the UK to go the Australia did. We all need to be responsible.
Enough said :)

it rather seems that in the uk for political correctness the term marker must be used instead of gun . (foolishness but hey no need to annoy the non paintballing crowd .) personally i refer to them as gun , marker , by specific name or as weapon (weapon is really only used when making sick jokes but hey doesnt really matter.)

Weapon!

I wouldn't call it a weapon, that is what the military use to describe their rifle (note they dont use the word gun). Anyways, I don't think this is helping Reapage...

As to siting etc: If you feel you need one then could I sugest the Smart parts' Hi Viz site, this goes on the end of the barrel. But basicly the answer is practice (after all looking down the site-rail will just tell you that paintballs don't go straight!).

As taken from P8ntballer's own glossary

Marker
Politically correct term for Paintball gun. Otherwise known as a betokener
(see mark).

Mark
Politically correct term for `hit'. As in "Hey, I marked your ass, my marker shoots straight, mark me and mark my words". Another word used is tag. If it was up to me I would suggest `betoken' as the PC word for hit. My thesaurus says it is a synonym for `mark'. As in "Marshal, get him out of there, he's betokened, I betokened him on the hopper!"

I think 'betoken' and 'betokener' would make fine terms for all paintballer to use.

:) BTW
