Ok, so what does HSE and DOT stand for? :D

And what's the difference?
HSE are the UK Standard bottles regulated by the Health and Safety Executive

DOT are the American standard regulated by the Department of Transportation

DOT are tested to a higher pressure but HSE bottles are actually made to a higher standard!

In slightly simplified terms you cannot use the DOT bottles in the UK unless you are visiting the country from abroad. Residents must use HSE cylinders

Any other questions?

HSE and DOT are the 2 main bodies responsible for standards for our gas bottles. HSE are the UK body and DOT are the US body. Unfortunately, they don't seem to see eye to eye and this has caused a few problems lately, e.g.
If you are a UK national, you can only fill, use & get tested an HSE bottle. If your bottle is DOT forget it, it's ILLEGAL for the above. And before you ask - no, you can't get a DOT bottle retested to HSE either.

So, only buy HSE or dual tested (i.e. to both standards) bottles if you are from the UK, simple.
