Depends on what kind of red shift mate...
All redshift results in a shift in frequency of light photons towards a lower energy (ie, longer wavelength). And as we all know, lower wavelengths produce red light, whereas shorter wavelengths product blue light (yes, there is such a thing as blueshift).
What you're referring to is Cosmological Redshift, which causes light to redshift as the expanding space "stretches" the wavelength of light as it traverses said space.
