Okay lets have a little debate, hopefully a few PRO players will give some feedback and then we can see if there is a way forward. Recently Robbo was talking about US domination and well, unless you are blind we have to accept that these teams are better than Euro Team, regardless of how they go about it, just look at the results. Heres my question to the paintballing nation.

Is it possible to have a player go through the ranks of Novice - Am - Pro if he was playing somwhere in the World where paintball is not huge business. Lets say for example Scotland, very few teams, geographicaly not really within a few hours drive of any pro or top ranking am teams, say we have a player who has the ability and the willingness to go for it, does he have to be in the paintball industry or indeed be very rich in order to make it to the top of his game or are there breaks given to players with ability but not funding to go to the top. Lets look at the Euro players who have made it to the top of their game, Robbo, Nick Brock to name two Euro players who have made it to the top ranking teams in the US....is this door open to us all.

Just a little food for thought, I'm in this sport to be the best I can be........if we all are then hopefully we can see if it is possible or are we going to be playing little league (no disrespect intended) for all of our paintball careers?? Other than saving hard to play Mill Series is there a chance we might be snapped up?

i do think that the americans become alot better through training
eveything seems to be cheaper over there than it is over her and i think that influences which teams progress faster and therefore the players which stand out.
maybe also they sometimes take things more serious than us at events because they have worked harded to get where they are and they quite rightly want to win more that most teams which makes them get recognised more pic up sponsorship and therefore have the maintain the hight standard of play to keep that sponsor.

One thing to think of is how many pro US teams are there and how many teams in the US are there who suck?

Ya know when the yanks come to play over here it seems like a lot of them and this makes us in europe look bad but in proportion if every US team came over we might make it look less biased

I think money and investment and then train make a big difference to the progression of the us teams over us but we are all still in the first few stages of paintball (look how long football was going for and watch the footage of an old football game and the likes of Man U today)

To be realistic, if anybody ever wants to get to the kind of level some american players are at, then they have to go stateside. Theres only so much you can learn on your own, to progress further you need to train with the best and the best is USA. The players over there live and breath paintball non stop, they train and experiment with new technical stuff all the time.
My team captain rang Chuck Hendsch the other day, Dynasty has been training all week and were at a tourney in Miami, after that their getting on a plane and going to prepare in portugal.........
Any Uk team do that? No chance, never gonna happen guys, not until we start training with teams like GZ, Dynasty etc

Hmmmmm, I tell ya how I made it, it was all down to the three L's....Luck, Luck and oh I nearly forgot...Luck !
All I can honestly do is shoot straight, stay pretty tight and the rest of my success was being in the right place at the right time.
I'm not indulging myself in false modesty here as I know there are much better players than me out there playing for Am and Novice teams.
I ain't no bunker monkey and never will be, and that area of the game is the most exciting to play and to watch, those are the guys I admire.
What I do is boring crap !!!
So, to answer your question, there are a myriad of players out there who could cut it at the top who are now playing minor league stuff but they won't get the opportunity because 'Lady Luck' hasn't smiled on them.
In fact, these are the very players I am now targeting in the X-Ball trials.
It looks as though Matty Schmidt will be the only pro I will be taking, the rest are Novices and Am players.
But I will add one thing however, players who push themselves forward have more of a chance rather than just waiting for Lady Luck to give them the nod.
You gotta have it, you gotta flaunt it and you gotta keep flaunting it to give yourself the best possible chance.
Every pro captain (and I know pretty much all of them) is always and I mean always looking for new talent, and if you call them up and ask for a trial of some kind, then more than likely, he will give you a chance, you have nothing to lose, but don't waste their time, you have to have true talent and not just 'think' you have, the game is full of those and I should know, I been one of them for years :)

PS Sid, please don’t bracket Nick Brockdorff with me, he has yet to attain the giddy heights that I inhabit (did he actually win any World Cups ?.........Nah !!! )….. :)
