Ok, the penguin is cool...

Now, if i stop cryptography, i get so far through the patch then BAM cryptography starts itself up again and comes up with the error.

It wont let me rename the catroot2 folder anyway, says its write protected.

when I had the virus in question, I noticed it didn't cause a problem if my firewall (Zone Alarm, I'm afraid...) was set to disallow internet access. So if you figure out a way of getting the patch downloaded in its entirety before applying it, then disable internet access, enable the RPC host service, then apply the patch.....

Actually, thinking about it, I think you may need to re-route the inverse-polarised deuterium from the starboard warp plasma manifold through the dilithium injector matrix, and reverse the polarity of the bussard hydrogen particle collectors, before applying a 38 level fractal encryption algorithm to isolate the main processor..... it's risky, but it might just work....

Other than that, sorry... I have no suggestion....

Ok after my stupid penguin insertions from earlier i'll try to help.
I can rename my Catroot2 folder with the system live, but it won't allow me to edit catroot1 (including replacing it with the renamed cr2) gives error of file in use/ access denied.

Are you sure your system isn't already accessing catroot2?

As for renaming perhaps its time to try rebooting and doing it from the command line?

Just had to start up in safe mode with command prompt, rename it and restart, then open the patch and sorted!

Boot it up in safe mode with command prompt then fella and rename it in there. Does not start anything else up other than the command shell so you shouldn't get the in use message.

Just use the 'ren' command and do for example:

ren c:\windows\system32zcatroot2 catrootold

That should do the job fella if you can rename that directory :)
