Right, this is annoying me now, and due to being hammered by msblast i need to get it sorted.

Problem: I keep msblast out most of the time, but recently its been sneaking in when my firewall fails to act like one. I have done everything but apply the patch, why.....well because it wont let me, I get some crappy excuse for an error saying 'Unable to check the integrity of update.inf, make sure cryptography services are running' or some **** like that.

Tried stopping starting cryptography, even tried patching it in safe mode and its havin none of it. Any ideas?

Thanks, Philip

I've seen this before... I think it's to do with the fact that the crypto service needs the rpc service to work properly. If this is running but still won't let you apply the patch, then it's probably cos either the catroot or the rpc service itself that has got corrupted. Thing is, starting up the RPC service might give you another problem because that could trigger the annoying cycle of rebooting every 60 seconds... :(

Have you tried getting it to recreate the catroot by renaming the existing one to something else?

Renaming catroot only applies if you have a catroot2 folder causing the integrity problem, renaming the catroot folder would just screw the o/s from what I can gather??!!

If you have a catroot2 folder rename it, if you just have a catroot folder leave it alone :)

Try running a full scan on the disk first off to make sure there is no corruption on the drive.

Hmm... can't remember off the top of my head, but the catroot is a folder off system32.

##### removed in case someone tries this and blames me for wrecking their pc :D:D:D #####

Gawd, it was such a long time ago I did this. Now I'm thinking maybe I got it the other way round, and that RPC is depending on crypto... cos that would make more sense.

Anyway, give that a shot and see what happens... :(
